He was, without question, convicted 34 times by a jury of his peers of making corrupt payments to silence (essentially bribe) a porn star so as to influence a Presidential election, that he subsequently won. How the hell was he not instantly and forever completely banned from running for President after those convictions. It was legally proved in court that he corruptly influenced the 2016 US elections...no ifs, no buts. The US justice system is a complete and utter joke!

They actually sat there and said "I think we should allow Trump to ask for his sentencing to be delayed. Sure we should do it immediately but what's the harm in waiting until after Election day? It's not like the Supreme Court will have enough time to decide if a President is immune to sentencing....."

So someone explained this to me like this: they found him guilty of the crimes. Had they given him a sentence, he would be able to appeal and that risks overturning the finding in the first court to “not guilty”. Now, since there was no punishment/sentence, they have nothing appeal (as there is no “adverse decision” to appeal), so he will forever be the president who was also a criminal. Still sucks, but yeh

No in this case, they knew they would pardon himself, rendering any sentence void. (I don’t know if a pardon also cancels the charges, but it at least cancels the sentence). This way, the charges stay and there is non sentence to pardon.

How is that better though? And they had time before the election so him pardoning himself wasn't a certainty. But just saying "you're gonna not obey the punishment so we won't punish you but you'll still be technically guilty" is such a weird stance.
