Kinda both. Patient has some legit chronic illnesses and isn’t exactly firing on all 8 cylinders but never presents with anything that warrants EMS. But, she is kind and usually ‘clean’ so it could be much worse. Often is.

There are two flats down my street that get regular visits from ambulances (or first responder cars). Some elderly people fall, faint, have minor seizures, heart wobbles, etc. regularly but not enough to warrant moving into more monitored care. My cousin is a paramedic in another area (not far away but far enough he doesn't come out this way unless there is a _massive_ RTA or such) covering a couple of dank run-down areas. He visits the same locations regularly for far less savoury reasons…

My mom calls 911 3-4 times a week to help her up off of the floor, she won’t hire a live in assistant or go to a care facility because it’s a “Waste of money” yet she spends more than double the cost on ambulance visits.

Lol, that's us. My sister has a lot of complicated medical conditions, chiefly brittle asthma. We must have called at least a hundred ambulances in the last 5 years since we moved here. Not a one was unnecessary, but god is it a strange situation to be in

My great grandmother ordered SO much crap from QVC and other home shopping channels that the UPS actually rerouted themselves around her house. My grandmother falls SO often because she's stubborn and refuses to use a walker most of the time, that the EMTs driving the Ambulance know her by name and I'm sure it's 'Ugh, THIS house again'.

My grandmother went through a rather nasty stage of dementia before we managed to get her into a place that could properly care for her. We found out later that the police and EMTs had to go through both more training and trauma counseling due to their (awesome and patient) interactions with her.

As a Firefighter, we have frequent flyers all the time for different reasons. Some patients are great, others not so much. We treat them all the same though. Unless it's Agnes at 3am because she knows our shift rotation and likes the Capt better than B Shifts...

Twice we've had unpleasant encounters with ems. First time, they were called for someone really sick. They didn't believe us and tried to talk us out of the trip to the er. It was appendicitis and required immediate emergency surgery. Second time, my gma fell, she has dementia. They tried to talk her into staying home. She had several broken and dislocated her hip. Total hip replacement. I know how hard you guys work. I also see some getting burned out. It's tough.

Frankly … the worst week(s) here in North America are immediately after Black Friday. Especially in this economy, everyone ordered stuff during the big BF sales and it tailed right off by December.

As someone who's done Amazon delivery: You are a gentlebeing and a scholar, thank you for your consideration. Hated that season. So much volume, so little daylight. And even less daylight bc Amazon changed the schedule to start late in the morning, on account of wanting to get the shipments from the night before onto the road the very next day.

I always tell my family, get the grocery shopping done a week ahead of any major holiday. Unless it involves fresh produce, it will keep in the freezer for a week. It is not worth joining the damn crush, with all the drunk drivers on the road, to go shopping at the last minute. But do they listen? Well, sometimes.

There was a small brewery beer that our local would stock, our group would drink it for awhile especially if it was on special and they would start to order more. Then they'd run out when the stocking/popularity cycle would fail. We'd forget about it, and switch to other beers, they'd have to put it on special right before it hit it's best before date, and then the cycle would repeat. Took a few years for the management to figure out.

I was the sole buyer of a brand of tobacco at my local kiosk for a while. They told me they stopped ordering it, down to three packs. I bought all of them, one then, one a week later, the last a week after that.

my local store asked me to please stop buying chicken hindquarters without calling in advance so they could place an extra large order. i buy 80 pounds at a time usually and 160 if i can manage it. the meat dep guy said “we only order 100# a week, just give us a heads up”. i actually need to call tomorrow to place an order for another 320 pounds since it’s cold enough out to manage storage.

Catfood. it’s cheaper (i pay abt $6 for 10 pounds of chicken), and according to my vet, better for them. i have a meat grinder and grind it down to “fine” burger, mix in psyllium husk fiber and Taurine supplement (again per my vet’s recommendation) and boom, fresh catfood. my cats (8 of them mostly rescues) eat 2# a day between them xD so i try to buy as much as i can to stock the freezer when it’s cheap, and the cold weather lets me use the outdoors as a fridge when processing. plus a day>

of processing is 80# of meat, but the cleanup is half the work, which is another reason to buy tons at once for bulk processing. (their old dryfood has gone up to over $1.30/pound and they def ate more of it by weight than they do this, so it’s also saving tons)
