So many wood joinery gifs, not a single gif of its practical uses

very skillful cutting, precise piecing, and if you did it in 2 colors it would be even better.

Yeah, then itd look way cooler than just a slightly longer piece of wood.

Should your penis resemble any item in the above video, I advise you immediately see a doctor.
Good thing I mine never grew to fruition.

Great, so you made a complicated block of wood.

heckin' forbid someone practices & hones their skill. no wonder kiddies on imgur are amazed by the dumbest shit- none of them do anything.
Some get pleasure from their craft. Like flexing a muscle and you do it because you can . Pride in your craftsmanship is a joy like no other
Applelion
Great. You don’t know what the word splice means.

Wood you*
But, "should you?"
RalphtheMagnif
Generally this style of joint is for replacing old or rotten wood on existing wooden structures
dopplebang3r
This joinery isn't used for anything. Nothing, even if you wanted to use it in a piece of furniture you'd think better if it.
FluffySeaTurtle
Thank you, I knew some joints are decorative but I now have a better understanding of the more odd ball joint gifs

IIRC a lot of crazy joinery is traditionally Japanese, i guess their trees dont grow very tall or straight and not much iron for nails.

Super cool. Thanks!
You're welcome!

i'd have to see that in practice, i'm having a hard time imaging how you'd add a joint to an existing thing.

form two separate joints after cutting out the rotten section.

We had a chair that the leg broke 1/2 way down. He joined a new piece in a way less complex but similar to this.
wouldn't it make more sense to simply make a new leg?
This chair didn't have individual easily replaced legs. It was all one weird piece that curved into the seat.
MOTHERFUCKINGLUCIFERMORNINGSTAR
Not all chairs have separate legs. A lot of good chairs are one piece or are joined in a way that makes it one piece
GiraffeLord7
Let's say the end of the leg that isn't rotten has complex joints of its own that are hundreds of years old and made by a famous woodworker
