Once upon a time...

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
That was me.

Tall, muscular, the sort that was considered a "socially dominant male", when out with friends. Thing is, I was a remarkably happy submissive, and my Domme and I were frequently described by kink-knowledgeable friends as "one of the strongest and healthiest D/s couples they knew."

That doesn't mean everything was perfect; she had serious mobility and pain management issues. She almost always wore heavy, neoprene knee braces, walked with a cane on GOOD days, and had to resort to a wheelchair, when travelling.

There was also no possibility of children, because of the anti-inflammatories and pain-killers she took; even taking them sparingly, she would have had to be completely detoxed for a year, before even CONSIDERING pregnancy. That alone would likely have crippled her, and any weight gain due to pregnancy would definitely have done so.

The day-to-day

That was one of the MANY areas where I was important: travelling. We were part of the SCA, and would travel a couple times a year for bigger tournaments, and she would be unable to navigate completely on her own, at many of the event sites.

So, I'd frequently spend more time getting her around that socializing, or otherwise participating, but I got to get to know a lot of great people, though her. But I did miss out on a lot.

That said, meeting a lot of those people was, in and of itself, a very positive thing; regardless of the distance between us, many of them are still very close and dear friends.

And frankly, when we were home, the sex was great, I enjoyed the impact and restraint play, and she clearly enjoyed it, when she wasn't in too much pain.

Things go sideways... sort of literally.

She was fairly restricted in her fitness options, and one of the few cardio options that didn't worsen her knees was rollerblading.

So on one of her excursions, it was raining lightly, she managed to find a patch of lane-marking paint that didn't have the embedded grit in it, her foot went out. She landed on her left hip-point and fractured her femur 3" below it.

During the 5.5 weeks of traction, surgery and basic recovery, I helped set up a bed in her living room (bathroom and kitchen were on the main floor in her house), re-leveled her sidewalk for better wheelchair accessibility, and start bringing in paving blocks to extend the sidewalk to the curb.

A week before she was released, we had a talk about how between the pins and screws in her femur and the muscle damage from the break and subsequent surgery were going to make sex difficult (if not impossible) in the short term.

I assured her that I understood, and that I would be happy to wait until she was more mobile and better healed, because I found her incredibly sexy, even in a wheelchair, and was already missing the sex, after a month without. I was willing to wait, because I loved her, and wanted her to be able to enjoy our sex and play properly.

Plot twist.

A week after she was released, I managed to cut out of work early, loaded the last 2 paving blocks for the sidewalk extension and set out. I got the blocks offloaded into the front yard, and noticed the front door was open and the screen on the storm door was up.

"Hey, that's awesome! She felt well enough to get up and get the doors opened up and get some air in the house!"

Curse your sudden, but inevitable betrayal!

So I knocked and started to push the door open, and got an eyeful of her being hammered on the bed I'd help set up. Frankly, I didn't get far enough in to see who she was with, but the only thing anyone said was her screaming at me to "get the fuck out!"

Apparently, I did the one thing 99% of other people wouldn't have done: I slammed the door hard enough to rattle the china, hopped into the van and left a patch of rubber 30' in front of her house.

The rules. Or what I understood the rules to be.

We had an open relationship, but the rules were ALWAYS that we discussed one of us wanting an outside partner, there were rules...

- The person that wanted the "outside action" had to explain what they wanted that they couldn't normally have within the relationship.
- Outside partners were a once-off; you got one session, no more.
- The outside partner had to be discussed significantly before you intended to take them off and bump uglies; no wandering up while out at the bar and expecting to just randomly take some other person home.

Frankly, she asked to bring a third person home at least as frequently as I asked to have an outside encounter, solo. I only broke those rules once, within the first 6 weeks of our relationship, when we still weren't really, properly, a couple, we were still figuring out the whole "open D/s relationship" thing out; I admitted to it, was punished, and it never happened again, nor was it brought up.

So the story goes.

The next day, she calls and asks if I can come over and talk. Like a sap, I say yes; I'm still in a great deal of turmoil, and have no idea what to do, other than at least here her out.

I get there, she's on the side of the bed, and before I know it she's fellating me with more enthusiasm than I'd experience in the almost 8 years of our relationship. That was blowjob # 9 I'd received from her, to be honest.

Once that was done (it was fun, don't get me wrong), I got what little could be claimed to pass for my brain straightened up and told her how hurt I was, how I couldn't understand how she could have CLEARLY said she didn't think she could have sex a week prior, and was getting hammered, just yesterday, just 2 feet to her left.

Validation, and other words that turned out to be bullshit.

She told me that "she needed outside sexual and emotional validation" and that "she still loved me, but needed more."

I found out about a year later that "needing more" meant she'd had a 4 year affair. I found out a month ago that the total number of OTHER times she cheated is at least 6. She used protection with none of the people she was cheating with, and her affair was notoriously promiscuous, and frequently didn't use protection, either.

About a month before we broke up (a year after I caught her with "the other guy"), she flat out told me that she'd broken the explicit agreed upon rules "because she knew I was fucking anything that happened along", and never felt a need to tell me "because it was none of my fucking business."

If it ain't MY business, who's is it?

It was definitely my business. This was a woman I trusted to use restraints on me, this was a woman I had allowed to peg me, humiliate me, beat me and that I had accepted a collar from.

The week before she uncollared me, she was so out of control during impact play that she wrapped her belt around my ass and struck me in the scrotum so hard it bruised my thigh, where my balls hit.

I reached down inside, thought about how much I loved her, got up and ask my Mistress to finish what she was doing. She kept going until she strained her right shoulder, then took an anti-inflammatory and kept going with the belt in her left hand.

For those that didn't know, or were afraid to ask...

If you're in ANY kind of open, D/s, or power exchange relationship, the simple fact is, you do have a right to know about what you're partner is doing. Especially if you're fluid bonded.

You know what? Fuck it. If you're in ANY KIND of relationship, and your partner can't be safe and honest, that's a problem. If you or your partner can't handle the simple responsibilities of being honest and being safe, then the other person needs to protect themselves.

Safe, sane and consensual are the bywords of every kinky person I've ever met, and YOU need to see YOUR boundaries protected and respected, if your partner won't. If that means you end a relationship, then do it. If you can't respect your partners boundaries, then don't bitch when THEY respect and protect themselves.

Being submissive doesn't mean you're just "someones' bitch."

If your partner can't respect your boundaries, won't communicate, manipulates, abuses and takes advantage of you, they don't deserve you.

You gave power up to them, and if they exercise that power in ways that risk your emotional, sexual, physical, psychological, family or financial health, YOU need to take that power back. They clearly don't deserve it.

It's only a power exchange so long as one person gives up power to another that exercises that power; the second anyone starts feeding trust, love, respect, energy and devotion into someone that doesn't respect that submission, it's a power vacuum, and it needs to stop.

The (somewhat) happy ending.

I'm still here, still kicking, still making do. Some days suck, when my anxiety sneaks up and bites me, but I'm actually further ahead now: I have a great career path, I've started saving for things that I want, and I now know that I've 'outgrown' being a submissive.

I also figured out how NOT to treat a lover, submissive, girlfriend, or pretty much anyone. I've learned that my future as a potential Dominant is very much the same as my past:

- caring, challenging, loving and protecting a woman that is willing to trust me to actually BE as good a man as I can be.

If you have any trouble with that, feel free to find the door. ;)

Amazing that someone is taking the time to be a downvote fairy, but if it makes you feel better, proceed. I don't need your validation. ;)

This is a good post.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

All I can do is pass on what I've learned.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

TL;DR Okay: I trusted someone enough to let them use a strapon on me, they lied, cheated, beat me, and told me it was my own fucking fault.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Also, I'm not going to claim I was perfect. I couldn't possibly have included all the details, and not bored you all to tears.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

OP, good on you

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Something I didn't mention above: it's been very hard to find therapy, after it all. I got lucky and found a counselor that has been great.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If anyone EVER feels they need help, reach out. If nothing else, go to your local pride center; they've heard almost everything.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So many plot twists.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So many bad decisions, on both parts.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

TIL to continue not to get in a relationship. I love you, computer. You'll never cheat on me

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But you might replace this computer with another! You monster, you! *giggle*

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I learned a lot from this. Huh.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's 99% of the reason I submitted this, so people could benefit from my past pain, without experiencing it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Good luck, buddy. I've never seen things first hand from the sub side, but I have to say I think you're a good example.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm trying to be, and if nothing else, I can spare someone, somewhere, a little pain. :)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This is why I'd never be in an open relationship.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can choose to protect yourself, no matter what kind of relationship you have; dishonest people will lie and hide almost anything.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Good post, sorry for your pain OP, but still a very good post. :-)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All I can do now is take what I've learned, and pass it along, so others can avoid some of the pain that's out there. :)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That was quite a story but good luck with everything OP. Good luck!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's all getting better, one way or another! :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Screw the TL/DR comments. Totally worth the read. Good for you, OP.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I'm glad people are appreciating this. It kind of fell out of my brain tonight, because it clearly needed to come out.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Don't give out TL;DRs... people who don't want to spend a few minutes reading what you have to say don't deserve to know what it is about.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If it made a few more people read it, and learn something, then it was worth it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Seriously you should write a book. I'd read it.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, I'll consider it, anyways. I usually have problems with editing everything to death, so I can't be responsible for that bit! ;)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Haha I will :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The rebound relationship is actually detailed on my fetlife account, in my writings. And this wasn't even all of THAT relationship.

And that's a REALLY shitty tl;dr. It eliminates about 99% of what the tl;dr COULD have.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

*grabby hands* Share?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Aw, OP I kinda wanna just give you a giant hug. And then maybe other things :P

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, hugs are good. I'm only into girls though, so if you're a girl, other things are fine. I don't mind threesomes, though. *giggle*

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

TL:DR OP was abused and is working hard to overcome it.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

That was probably a lot more succinct than my tl;dr. *giggle*

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Thanks for the tl;dr ginger!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

^_^ not a problem. I always appreciate a nice TL:DR myself. That, and I know OP and the problems he's trying to work through.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That was a roller-coaster

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was a rollercoaster at the time, too. Things are a lot better now, though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

good

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

:D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Probably not going to read that.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That's your prerogative.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

TL;DR I trusted someone enough to let them use a strapon on me, they lied, cheated, beat me, and told me it was my own fucking fault.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh...I will read that!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That seems to be the opinion of everyone that wanted a tl;dr.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I find that "ex" dom/subs are the best at relationships

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm only an 'ex-sub' at this point... but I can see why that might be... ;) They know how to not be complete jerks.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You think this awful experience has ruined subbing for you for life? Or just for now?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was only ever submissive to that one woman; any future partners will either be vanilla, or subs

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Interesting, so she got you into it.My xp has been that subby women are everywhere I look while dommes are quite rare, and those few I have>

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All the subs I meet want me to micro-manage them, and then tell me that I'm body-shaming when I have an expectation of being healthy, (1)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

>found sadly seem to be in it for hates sake, i.e. not doing it with love & respect.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(1) I have had no trouble finding people in general that THINK they're dominant, and are shallow, abusive, self-centred, lack empathy and

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Holy fuck is there a syllabus for this reading assignment?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I trusted someone enough to let them use a strapon on me, they lied, cheated, beat me, and told me it was my own fucking fault

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like how the D/s side of imgur is slowly showing up. Upvotes for all of you. Oh and OP, I wish you all the best for your future relations.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Need to find someone to have some relations with, but that'll come, I'm sure... ;)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's the spirit! :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a similar experience. No more open relationships for me.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's a valid choice, and anyone that says otherwise is a jackass. Do what's best for you, first.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would really appreciate a tl/dr.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Maybe check the comments? Because I did a TL:DR

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Thanks! Wasn't updated when I posted.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The tl;dr would eliminate a lot of fairly crucial details, and leave people wondering why in the fuck any of it was a problem.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm seriously considering painting my fence tomorrow

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

That's cool.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

What colour?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

This.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's pretty boring, frankly. That wwould be WAY better.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Classic brown! Just to shield it against the weather.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not bad. Water-sealing, after?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hmmm, I don't normally but now that you mention it, not a bad idea.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Throw that on every couple years, keeps the paint from weathering as badly, and washes down better.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very well put, congratulations and good luck!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you, and honestly, things are looking up! :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wait, you're kinky AND a SCAdian?!?!?! We need to hang out.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I'm in western Canadia, though... although I am renewing my passport, I haven't been into the SCA stuff since that relationship ended.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

An Tir? Nice. You should get back into it. I just moved from Ansteorra to Meridies, so I'm nowhere near you, though :(

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Isn't just the ex; also got tired of dealing with jerk-off heavies that don't accept any still except their own attempting to injure me.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That sucks! As a non-fighter, I've never had that problem :(

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Ansteorra is Florida-ish, right?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I wasn't 6'2" and 240lbs, so I didn't want to fight with a heater or round shield. They didn't like me running them ragged/

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Riveting. Seriously, not a bad read. Sorry about your balls OP...

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Honestly, that was a lot less painful that the revelation that I was lied to, or that she didn't think protection relevant.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The weird thing is I think I would trust somebody not to cheat on my before I trusted them to tie me up...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah that's some scary shit. I would have a hard time trusting anyone that much, one of the reason BSM doesn't appeal to me.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I had no reason to distrust her, up until I walked in on her.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Sounds like you were the decent one in the relationship, so at least you've got that going for you. STD check come out ok?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I got lucky; no kids, no cooties.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Read it all. Cringed at 'open relationship'. Shit like this happens too easily. Can't tell if sorry or happy for you, prefer to say I'm ---

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

happy for you though, that you eventually broke free from such a person. I wonder how she'll get by without you, though. Any idea? ---

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly, it's not my problem how she gets by; I saw her last summer at a camping event, and her husband was the only person helping her.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She had someone that gave up having kids to be her full-time submissive, and if she couldn't value that, it's her fault. SEFP DNFC.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will you drop being submissive entirely? Why not have the best of both worlds! It's great to switch roles every now and then. Good luck!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have no interest whatsoever in being submissive again; I will never trust anyone enough to let them restraint or beat me.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

:x that sounds kind of sad though, especially if you used to find enjoyment in it...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not really sad, it's acceptance that I have grown beyond that, and that the circumstances required for it can't be met again.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

well...shit... This is levels of deep beyond a lot of relationship stuff. +1

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If all anyone gets out of this is a fucking wacky story, then it's still a success. If they learn anything, it's a wild success.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've had this kinda happen to me. I was in a relationship in which I was a bit of a domme. However, as soon as I found out that she was 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

lying to me about things, I considered ending the relationship. When I tried pressing her for her feelings behind the lying, she dumped me.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Better off that way, in all likelihood... you have no idea where the dishonesty might have stopped.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

ikr?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they don't respect you enough to tell the truth, they're not worth your time.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
