Meet the Heroes of The Shannara Chronicles

Previously on Imgur, we introduced the Shannara series, which takes place in a post-apocalyptic, high-fantasy evolution of Earth after global catastrophe. The Four Lands, the Pacific Northwest setting of our tale, is on the brink of extinction because a guardian tree called the Ellcrys is dying and no longer able to prevent hordes of demons from infiltrating the land.

The heroes of The Four Lands are mobilizing to fight the demon threat and restore the tree. Let’s meet the characters that answer the Ellcrys tree’s cry for help.

Wil Ohmsford, An Aspiring Healer

Wil is half elf, half human, although he is often mistaken for a pureblood. (It’s the ears). He dreams of leaving his impoverished home to become a healer. Wil is pulled into the quest to save the Ellcrys by the arrival of Allanon, a legendary druid. Can Wil leave his dull but safe life behind and fight to save The Four Lands?

Eretria, A Jaded Rogue

Life has not been kind to young Eretria. She was raised by the Rovers, a gang of bandits known to steal and sell women and children. Although she was adopted by bandit leader Cephalo, she knows he will sell or trade her soon as she has come of age. In the meantime, Eretria is learning everything she can about combat, horseriding, and thievery. As the favored child of Cephalo, she has little responsibility, but Eretria is also looking for a way out of the Rovers on her own terms.

Amberle Elessedil, Elf Princess

Amberle has lived a life of privilege. As the beloved granddaughter of King Eventine Elessedil, she has wanted for nothing. Although she is quite young and has led a sheltered upbringing, Amberle is anxious to prove herself to her grandfather. She joins the quest because she has visions of the future implying their apocalypse. Amberle joins Wil and Allanon’s as a way to serve her people, save The Four Lands, and prove that she can stand on her own as a warrior princess.

Allanon, A Badass Druid

The Druids are an ancient order of magic users, warriors, and keepers of secret knowledge. Allanon is the last of them, and with the help of a suspended-animation sleep exclusive to Druids, he has been walking The Four Lands for hundreds of years. Allanon is dedicated to saving The Four Lands, and pivotal to pointing Wil on the quest to save the Ellcrys tree. While Allanon assists Wil in this endeavor, he spends a good deal of his time exterminating the demons that have infected The Four Lands.

King Eventine Elessedil, Amberle’s Grandfather

King Eventine is a well-loved leader who has seen the elf kingdom through several pivotal battles. He orchestrated the current peace, which is a very uneasy truce between the races. He will do whatever he can to maintain that peace, and as a result has taken some violent and anti-magic stances on politics. He’s a good man, but it is not easy being king.

Eventine must face the demon threat to The Four Lands while dispatching his granddaughter Amberle to save the Ellcrys tree. Can he martial the elf kingdom’s forces and keep the peace while demons ravage The Four Lands and the Ellcrys tree is dying?

Join Our Heroes As They Try To Save The Four Lands
