I Have a Gigantic Problem With This

While there is no reason to discount the claim put out there by Anthony Rapp, I have a significant problem with how "scandals" of this type were handled.

Rather than acting on a claim or claims backed with any kind of proof, Neflix decided to cancel House of Cards and put hundreds of people out of a job based on a claim. In this situation, I believe a hiatus of the show would be more appropriate.

I have read hundreds of comments of people saying something to the extent of "Well, I've heard rumors about Spacey for years, so it has to be true." There is no evidence at all this happened.

In no way am I going after Rapp for speaking out and it's horrifying if that did happen to him, or anyone else for that matter.

TLDR: People aren't guilty of crimes unless there is proof beyond a reasonable doubt, don't rush to judgement.

Hollywood parties are weird. You apparently are groomed to never say no, because it can end your career before it even gets started.

House of cards, indeed...

Trial by mob. All the rage these days.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Trial by media, but trial by internet is worse. One scandal even if it's bogus, and you are done for, unless you are like Trump.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean he didn't deny it when he made a statement, he said he didn't recall it and then he apologized in case he did. I agree with you.

But he king of shot himself in the foot.

He *president of shot himself in the foot.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I'm so glad that country became a full democracy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In no way should he have even made it appear as a possibility that he did it. I don't think a PR rep ever read over the tweet he sent.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Yea that was all him, his PR rep would have never let him send that out.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's because he did do it. And he's using his coming out as a smokescreen for him banging teenage boys.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

You don't deserve the hate, it's blatantly obvious that he decided to finally come out to overshadow this, which worked pretty well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guilty until proven innocent

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess the lesson is he should have denied everything and attacked the victim's character.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the lesson most will take away. The real lesson is that he's the only one taking it seriously & the rest of the world is a PR circus.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think we should give him exactly the same benefit of doubt that we give Trump. Nah? lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yet another case where there is zero proof of the sexual allegations made against him.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I haven't followed it but until it goes to trial and he's convicted I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Like everyone deserves.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly! The reasonable thing to do. And you're right, my Kung Fu is just awful.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Patience grasshopper

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's completely done now. All it took was one accusation and mob mentality. I'm not defending him

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, there's no point in starting House of Cards now?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Numerous outlets say that it was already on the chopping block but they had pressure to announce now..tho I do agree this whole guilty till

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Proven innocent crap is getting outta hand. But when you live and get rich in the public eye prepare to get tried in court of public opinion

Netflix has been in deep debt for a long time. Too many shows to produce. Found their perfect “out” with this series today

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so how many people are out of a job because Netflix made their decision based on the media and not the justice system?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I am still outraged they cancelled Pee Wee's show. What he did was trivial by today's standards and the kids weren't even told why.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

No one thought of the children!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, multiple people saw and corroborated a claim of Reubens whacking it in a porn theater.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

The only people hurt were the kids who wondered why their favorite show was suddenly cancelled.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

While I kinda agree, someone who illegally performs sex acts in a public place probably shouldn't host a kids show on tv.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

It was in a porn theatre. Not a park. No minors were involved in any way.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I agree! Let's put it this way: I don't think anyone convicted of a sex crime should be featured in the media.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Seems like a reasonable place to do that, actually.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I kinda agree. The type of person who'd go to a porn theater would probably be okay with seeing a stranger blow their load down the aisle.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It is worth noting that Spacey's response wasn't a denial, but to say that he doesn't remember at all and apologizes if he did that. (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

As for why he doesn't remember, it was 30 years ago and he claims he was likely very drunk. Alcohol is dangerous, kids. (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I don't even know why he would leave the door open to this speculation by not vehemently denying it. Unless he thinks it's something he did.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

He probably knows he did it. I recall someone else saying that a lot of people had a Kevin spacey story. And then the family guy bit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he thinks it's something he possibly did. If he was as drunk as he claims, he can't really say one way or the other what he did.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No, as soon as these allegations surfaced, emergency meeting with Spacey, you do it? Ya. Ok, season 6 and it's over. K bye...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's not about 'guilty' when the name is the product, the perception is reality

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The reason they cancelled HoC was because they were looking for a reason to. It's made its money and everyone wants to move on.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Then why not just outright cancel it? Doesn't make sense to me.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Netflix said they were already planning on cancelling the show. The last season was wack, and I was not planning on watching the next.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, Netflix did state that one was not related to the other. Maybe I'm naive in taking that at face value, but there doesn't really (1)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

seem like they have an incentive to lie about that, when they could've just as easily said it was because of the accusations. (2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mob mentality

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nobody has time for due process or ecidence any more, everyone just jumps on the hate bandwagon so no one thinks they support criminals.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Its like the opposite of politics, where everyone supports their own criminal vs the other criminal.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The better question is would people believe him more if it were a woman instead. Replace with 14 year old girl, see how the story looks.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too often men are seen as less capable to be victims. We should listen to victims first because they're less believed .

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know why anyone would believe the claim more or less based on gender. You can both believe Rapp and understand KS is still innocent.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This case, where it's a young boy, is an entirely different dynamic in victim perception. You're joking yourself if you think otherwise.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I never said there wasn't, although I don't understand why there might be. Never said it didn't happen, we just have no proof that it did.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm afraid people are requiring more proof for Spacey than other famous people because he's so beloved. Even our idols can be wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There should be actual proof in every case, celebrity or gender notwithstanding! I could care less about Spacey's work. Haha.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And I really dearly love Spacey. But this is a wrong case from every angle, and is symptom of a larger issue in young, gay men in Hollywood>

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Being used and abused by powerful actors and producers. He wasn't clean before this, it's coming out.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

private company allowed to make decisions they see fit.. I have 0 problem with this... now if he was being arrested very different story

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. As a libertarian, I tend to agree with that idea. However, firing Spacey seems to be more appropriate, rather dumping all.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But happy to see another libertarian on imgur.. very rare breed indeed

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get the government out of my paycheck and bong. Voted for that goofy bastard Johnson and still don't regret it, somehow.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i did as well, didnt represent all of my ideals but neither do dem or reps.. need a multiparty system

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean why? Shows get cancled for less all the time.. sometimes halfway through the series. Or after 2 episodes.. why not have the same

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sentiment for the 30 that will be this season?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The show is still extremely popular! Announcing the ending a month or two from now, assuming it's proven this happened and combined with 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another decent reason seems far more appropriate. Ending a moneymaker for an indebted company doesn't seem too smart. 2/2
