For those three Imgurians who don't understand Norwegian, I will be kind and translate into that rarely used, almost extingt language of English:
Swedish man was so drunk the police thought he was Danish.

There's a difference?

Funfact: In Sweden, no one plays hide and seek. Not even the children and their parents. ... No one want to look for a swede.
JericoJones23
Heard a theory once that Australian accent developed largely due to slurred speech as a result of being drunk.

Ahh the good old potato-in-the-mouth

Its the norwegian which sings when they talk i bet they dont ever understand each other and just pretends to
torbtom
Not a joke, in case anyone wondered. Happened in 2016:he had too many grogs and got 1month prison for speaking Danish… I mean drunk driving.
asdasdfdsa
But wasn't so much that they would have thought that he was Finnish.

Of all the languages that are dying, I wouldn't mind if English was one of them. Let's go back to simple, structured latin

Tibi assentior. Satis facile est loqui Latine.

There are many structured languages still in existence today.

This is the greatest clip regarding Danish "culture", bar none. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJBtV_S8c1c

That was wild. Didn't understand any of it. Just drinking and eating, then the defib comes out.

Never seen this before. Pretty accurate depiction of a traditional Danish party. We would call this a "påskefrokost" aka an 'easter lunch'.
JaromirAzarov
Some Norwegian guy once told me they say Danish isn't a language, it's a throat disease.
Drix1942
We met Norwegians at a festival. We spoke Danish to them while they spoke Norwegian to us, but most times we both switched to English. ^o^
TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsTheBabyAteMyDingo
That's what I use to say.
Schtaan
Also an old swedish saying, but true!
HJNH
I speak danish and it literally hurts my throat, so true.
AdmiralLightningrod
Was he the sharpest tool in the shed?
BobFictional
I got “it’s like Norwegian, if you’ve swallowed a potato”
QuamvisSintSubAqua
Honestly, the Wikipedia page about Norwegian (and Danish and Swedish) is fascinating and nauseating. Iirc Norwegians used to write in Danish
QuamvisSintSubAqua
Until they decided to stop and invented a new written Norwegian, and another and a third one?
jekath
Kinda. Norwegian is pretty much Danish, just pronounced differently. Nynorsk, literally new Norwegian, is quite different. I'm a Dane and 1/
Eidodk
I lived my entire childhood close to sweden, while the TV choices were extremely slim, we had one danish and two swedish channels.
Eidodk
The swedish TV channels were ALOT better to watch than the danish, so i learned swedish EXTREMELY early. I learned English because <1>
jekath
I understand Norwegian well. Reading it is like reading Danish, with a different spelling, sometimes. Swedish is way harder for me.
QuamvisSintSubAqua
I learned Swedish and I find Norwegian ok to read and understand, while Danish is tough for me.

(According to Dutch friend) 3. Eat all the vowels and do not pronounce the leftovers.
keshro
As a Dane. 100% correct. Am confused by my mother language every day. Plus. There are so many old expressions that make no sense.
gregthegrug
Treat consonants the way the French treat vowels. (Line them all up and then don’t pronounce them)
PrincessWendyB
Tish! THAT'S FRENCH!
KittenBath
3. Put potato in mouth for the rest of your speech.
IGotsDemGoodies
For easier practice try putting a potato in your mouth.
Shamorza
The potato needs to be hot too... or so I've heard.
IGotsDemGoodies
It's a related technique. Speak german with a hot potato in your mouth to speak Dutch.
bigfatpanda89
Would fermented work as well?
IGotsDemGoodies
This is not Russia my friend
bigfatpanda89
That's why I asked
varonicaED
We have a similar rule, say this letter sometimes, sometimes don't, if anyone understands you, they're also Australian!
varonicaED
The "drunk" part isn't necessary, just assume they are drunk and you can't go far wrong.
ZeOberon
The first three letters are pronounced wrong and drunk, the remaining are a blur. That's how you danish convincingly

I'm fluent in Swedish, but have real trouble understanding people from Skåne, the south-most county closest to Denmark
VenomSnek
I'm from lower northern Sweden and I have no problems understanding normal Skånska. I kinda "get" Danish lately but I rather have it written
TheLeanWolf
I learned Swedish living up in Luleå. I thought generally all Swedes can understand Skånska, as well as Danish, tho they will joke otherwise
Choe8
Sweddishiggy
As a swede, same!
ZeOberon
Skånsk isn't a language, but an early stage speech disorder. If left untreated, it may evolve into full blown Danish
mastikator
My spouse is an immigrant learning Swedish, she also thinks Skåne is horrible and they should learn to speak properly.
Bonchoman
We concur. Regards, the rest of Scandinavia.
uniqueusernamesarehard
That's because Skåne in reality still should be Danish
donorkort
Don't worry, only Copenhageners and Skåninger can understand those self-proclaimed "people".
stygiansojourn
My best friend is Danish, I'm American. I'm thankful he speaks such perfect English because I cannot get my head around Danish pronunciation
Bonchoman
Neither do they.
CarnivorousRabbit
Danish children learn their native language later on average than Norwegian or Swedish kids do too
DaHayHay
I worked for a Danish company and spent time there and tried sooo hard to speak the language. The Danes: please don’t. 🤣
Eidodk
We had a french controller sent from the headoffice in France, he became fluent in Danish in 4 months of intense training. It's dedication.
TheLeanWolf
The Swedes also told me to just speak English, they're all quite fluent in it. It took perseverance to practice and get good at speaking.
donorkort
It's very tough. We also have a ton of dialects for being such a tiny language in the first place.
Bonchoman
And by dialects, you actually mean levels of alcohol intoxication.
donorkort
Mmmm no, not really. Intoxication levels are high across the board.
TheMobilePengwing
Im Scanian (skåning), and I don’t understand anything people from Stockholm says. They all have dpeech impediments with triphthongs.
someguy7734206
Let's be honest, is Danish really any worse than English?
IGotsDemGoodies
Yes. Worse than Swedish? No :) :) :)
TripleDane
OH YES
LordLoke
Ja!
DonaldFuck
Not even Danish people understand Danish.
sturmhauke
Studies show that even Danish kids have trouble learning Danish. Too many vowels, not enough consonants.
tirohtar
Seriously though, as a German hearing Danish I just want to yell "use a CONSONANT finally, damnit!" My throat hurts just from listening.
