Ah, islands. They’re beautiful, idyllic, remote getaways where you can leave the cares of life behind. Unless, of course, they’re the site of a dystopian society ruled by a fascist dictator. (We’re looking at you, Panau!)

We know it’s hard to generalize the island experience - you have tropical or arctic, untouched by society or developed, and too small for human habitation or so large it’s a continent. We hope you can agree that islands are pretty cool, though, and that it would be pretty amazing to own one. Want to find out how? Read on!

First, Let's Learn More About Islands

We’re no Planetary Society, but we’re going to do our best Bill Nye impression to tell you how islands can be formed.

Volcanic islands are born as Earth’s tectonic plates move over lava flow. The lava flows from the seafloor and cools, building layer by layer to create islands that eventually break the ocean’s surface. The Hawaiian islands are a great example of this. Islands may also form as the result of buildup of other materials, such as sand, sediment or coral.

Continental drift occurs when continents break apart, a process that takes millions of years. The result is a string of islands between and along the now-separated landmasses. Similarly, islands may form by erosion, a process by which a connecting landmass breaks down and a peninsula becomes an island.

Private Islands - All The Rich Kids Are Doing It

He may not have an Oscar, but one thing Leonardo DiCaprio does have is his own private island. He’s not alone, either; Johnny Depp bought an island in the Caribbean (of course), Nic Cage owns an island in the Bahamas, and Robin Williams owned an island in British Columbia, Canada.

Virgin Airlines chairman Sir Richard Branson owns Necker Island in the British Virgin Isles and rents it out for $65,000 a day. What a deal!

How Do I Get My Island?

Having your own private island sounds pretty sweet. Just imagine it - exclusive wifi, only your favorite restaurants, all streets named after Imgur memes. But how can you make it happen? Square Enix is prepared to reward creative destruction in a big way, with a chance to win your own private island.

- Pre-order the Day 1 edition of Just Cause 3 for PlayStation 4 or XBox 1, boxed or digital. (Sorry, PC gamers!)

- You’ll receive a code to enter into the Win an Island competition.

- At game launch, December 1st, go to www.jc3winanisland.com and use your code to gain entry into the Just Cause 3 Win An Island Contest.

- At the end of 90 days the person with the most Chaos Points will win a real island!

Watch a video with all details and read the rules and regulations here.

What The Heck Is A Chaos Point?

Chaos Points are earned by causing destruction all over Medici, Just Cause 3’s main island setting – however, the more creative you are in your destruction, the more Chaos Points you’ll earn! For example – if you blow up a car with a rocket launcher, you’ll earn 50K Chaos Points, but if you plant some C4 on a helicopter, then grapple that helicopter to a car, and smash ‘em together while setting off the C4 – you’ll earn a LOT more Chaos Points.

Good Luck!

Imgur, are you ready to let creative destruction flow in the name of owning your own island, or plain old fun? If so, we’ll see you on Just Cause 3.

TL;DR: Preorder & play Just Cause 3 for a chance to win your own island

promotedpost

I love how this isn't just an ad, but it has information in it too! Also: I have my own island alright: an island of loneliness....

Fucking Panau, it's like Earth's version of Toby. But seriously, props to you guys for doing your research on good promoted posts.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

These are some fucking ads. Thank you. And what a way to get some preorders!

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I know what I'm doing winter break

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My island's streets would be like Atlanta's Peachtree streets. Dickbutt St, Dickbutt Ave, Dickbutt Ln, Dickbutt Ln NE, N Dickbutt Ln NE

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

While I'm not gonna pre-order I'm looking forward to this game

11 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 3

BUT THEN YOU'LL MISS OUT ON YOUR OWN PRIVATE ISLAND!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

smart consumer right here!

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

So given this is a contest, aren't they obligated to enter you even with no purchase?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone whose family owns a private island on the US/Canadian border I have to say it's the shit

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Welp, I pre-ordered it for PC already. Fuck

11 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 5

Well at lest your not going to be playing it on a console.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

And that is as good as winning.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

His what isn't going to be playing it on a console?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

true

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

JC2 had horrible PC controls, /especially/ for planes; I needed a gamepad just to take off. Why would you pre-order it for PC?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I never had much trouble with the keyboard. even so, I used a USB xbox controller

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

because you can plug controllers into a pc, and pc's have much much much better power, no brainer

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because I can plug in my 360 controller and then play it in 4k. At 200+fps.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

exactly

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy fuck. That's some Donald Trump shit right there

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So in other words.....some hacker will own a private island?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

YEAH SCIENCE AND VIDEO GAMES! WOO!!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a PC master racer with no consoles.... Damn :/

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Yeah fuck PC gamers for no particular reason. I can't wait to see what 12 year old wins his own island.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'd like to see the twelve-year-old that can produce the few grand it'll cost the winner in fees.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That just killed the rest of the ad for me...

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Wait so... private islands can cost as low as 50k? Its not chump change... but it could be financed. Where are islands only 50k? how big?

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes. This big ( )

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

also, not guaranteed to be habitable, and you handle all the lawyer and closing costs

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now I can make the island of misfit toys a reality!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only ad that will receive upvotes. (Also @planetarysociety)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Damn, what a time to not be able to purchase a next gen console

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Updoot for tasteful game ads.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Are there going to be cannibal natives on this island. Because that could be a deal breaker.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Am I truly alone on this island tho? Can I bring my cat? Lots of questions I need answers to.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I say imgur organizes a 24/7 around the clock game anyone can signup to play (must be in San Francisco) - to win an island for all of imgur!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

While I'm not gonna pre-order I'm looking forward to this game

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Camp Imgur 2016. Still can't afford to attend.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pre-order.... If I've learned anything from imgur, it's that you don't pre-order games.

11 years ago | Likes 419 Dislikes 12

The point of Just cause is to fuck shit up, so if the games fucked up you can't tell.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was on board until that word showed up. hahaha.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

It's Just Cause 3. If there's anything in the world I feel safe pre-ordering, it's "whatever comes after Just Cause 2".

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think that applies more to games from lesser known/ inexperienced developers? Just Cause is already well-established

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nah just look at the latest batman game. Buggy as hell on release. If pre-ordering doesn't get you any bonus or special feature 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is pre-ordering usually the same cost as buying the game once it's out?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

out of luck and would have to wait for a new shipment. Now you can just buy a digital copy at the release time and start playing 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah usually. Pre-ordering is a relic of hard copies. Usually if you tried to get a game at gamestop without a preorder you would be 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well if it's the same cost then you're not really losing anything if it's buggy when it comes out vs waiting

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

from pre-ordering then it's not worth it. But for the possibility of an island? Might just be worth it this time 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is like a 0.01 percent chance this game is not going to be amazing. Look up some gameplay (I think there's alpha or pre alpha online)

11 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

I've never played the Just Cause games, but I'm a HUGE fan of Far Cry. Judging by the gameplay demo, I'm going to love this game.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's going to be awesome and a day-1 purchase for me, but supporting pre-order culture is still wrong and I won't do it.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

But would you do it, for your own island, instead of DLC?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I might, just to encourage them to do posts like these

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

you know, i got upvoted a bunch for supporting that stance, and i still support it, but holy fuck its an island

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but i already got star citizen

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The "game" is "released" already. It's just not anywhere near done. It's interesting to contrast with where E:D was in development.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

preordering a game from a studio thats made two just like it already is a lot safer than most kickstarter projects

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wait i must have missed it, whats the problem with pre-ordering games?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

it must be pretty bad for them to offer an island in exchange for buying it

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I just fucking pirate.....oh its not for PC?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't pre-order, unless the pre-order bonus is worth it. Which in this case it just might be.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As others have said, this is a great series and a good dev team.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So... don't they have to enter you into the contest even if you don't pre-order?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No pc version. I WAS buying this game.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pre-order if you're confident. New IP's, dev's/publishers with a spotty history, that's where you shouldn't i.e. I preordered GTA V.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It really depends on the developer and the title. I pre-ordered this, Fallout-4, MGSV, and XCOM 2. I'd consider these all safe pre-orders.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So... aren't they obligated to enter you into the contest if you ask even if you don't order?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Play games and win an island you say?

11 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 2

MY MAN.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I WANT MY OWN FUCKING ISLAND

11 years ago | Likes 472 Dislikes 13

You already have one, you can just never afford to go to it

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What about the taxes that go along with said island? >.>

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The value is up to $50,000. While that's a lot of money, I'm surprised that you can get an island for that much... considering life choices.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

some places of the world are still very poor...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ya but that's in the damn frozen north. Still, your point is valid, not all islands are that valuable.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PRIZE: One (1) Grand Prize Winner will win ownership rights to an Island, valued at up to $50,000 USD or $50,000 USD in cash. (1/?)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Location of Island to be determined by Sponsor. All taxes and fees associated with purchasing and obtaining of Island (2/?)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sponsor does not guarantee the Island to be inhabitable, developed or reachable by any means other than a boat. (4/4)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(including but not limited to attorney's fees, escrow, and closing costs) are the responsibility of the Winner. (3/?)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I need a definition of 'island' in this promoted post. Cause I have an 'island' in my back yard that's a puddle w a raised central region

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if there's a bunch of cannibals on the island and this is just a creative way of feeding them?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

phrasing... wait, no. that works. i want my own fucking island too.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I want my own fucking-island.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I WANT TO FUCK MY OWN ISLAND

11 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 0

is it Pen island by anychance?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ISLAND ME, MY OWN FUCK!

11 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

ENOUGH! King, illegal, forest, to, pig, wild, kill, in, it, a, is.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I'd give this a go, but I know some neckbeard with no life is going to be able to play 20 hours a day for the 90 days and win.

11 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

at least he'll finally be able to leave his mothers basement.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Exactly why I won't enter. I don't have 25/8 to play this game to win. Random selection makes more sense but points gets more players...

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That was my thought exactly. "Oooh, an island!" then "Oh shit... there's no way I'm going to beat some obsessive guy in his mom's basement..

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Neckbeard Island... the only tropical location where the beach is empty because everyone is inside on computers.

11 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

True, but as a non-neckbeard...my desire to get away from society could push me to quit my job to do this. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If it ends up being some sandbar in a harbor somewhere, it'll just suck.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Nailed it. While the appeal is there, the truth is, there's always someone out there with less real world obligations & more determination.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Which is why they should've made it a lottery, not based on 'time dedicated towards game'.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agreeed. I honestly think that would've been a better move as more people are willing to think they can win a lottery.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did anyone else think "Little Tall Island" when they saw the name? No?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Although that IS a pretty sweet gazebo.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This is precisely the same listing my curiosity brought me to. I am and yet shouldn't be surprised at the same time.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks like it has a covered place to sleep, and a naked chick...what seems to be the problem exactly?!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

look closer, it's -part- of the island.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Location of Island to be determined by Sponsor. All taxes and fees associated with purchasing and obtaining of Island PT.2

11 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

This was my first thought. Like those people who win exorbitant and luxury homes but then get fucked by taxes they can't afford.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

(including but not limited to attorney's fees, escrow, and closing costs) are the responsibility of the Winner. PT. 3

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Betting ten to one its some tiny island off of Canada that's all rocks with like three pine trees. i see those for sale a lot.

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Yeah but 50k is pretty nice too

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Until you're not able to sell it, due to the fact that the island sucks, and still have to pay property taxes because you own it.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They talk up Branson's private paradise to make you think you're getting similar, then stick you with a square mile of cold, desolate rocks.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And a bunch of tax bills and attorney fees. What a sleazy contest!
