20 years ago Kurt Cobain commited suicide

One of Cobain’s friends, Carrie Montgomery, once said that he “made women want to nurture and protect him. He was a paradox in that way, because he also could be brutally and intensely strong, yet at the same time, he could appear fragile and delicate.”

At age 14, Cobain announced to a schoolmate that he would be a superstar musician, get rich and famous, kill himself and go out in a blaze of glory like Jimi Hendrix. Neither boy realised Hendrix’s death wasn’t suicide. (Hendrix died from asphyxiation from vomiting while passed out from drugs)

Irony of this is that he did in fact die (by suicide) at the same age as Jimi Hendrix, 27, and thus joining the infamous 27-club. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club

When Nirvana was on the rise, Metallica sent them a fax that read: “We really dig Nirvana. Nevermind is the best album of the year. Let’s get together soon, Metallica. PS, Lars hates the band.”

Suicide surrounded Kurt from early on in his life. There were several within his family, and when Cobain was about 13, he and a schoolmate came across a corpse hanging from a tree after a kid hanged himself outside of the elementary school. Cobain and his classmates stared for 30 minutes before school officials sent them on their way.

Some may have missed this, but the guy on the right in this picture is Dave Grohl. He played the drums in Nirvana aswell as some back-up vocals. Dave is now more known as the lead singer of Foo Fighters.

Nirvanas bass player, Krist Novoselic, has also done some work with Foo Fighters but is now more into politics than music.

Cobain started using heroin on a daily basis to relieve his chronic stomach pains. In his diary, he wrote, “So I decided, if I felt like a junkie, I may as well be one." And at one point he spent as much as 100$ on heroin every day, which at that time was a considerable amount.

Cobain once wrote, “Art that has long lasting value cannot be appreciated by majorities, only the same, small percent will value arts patience as they always have. This is good.”
