I thought having brothers would be cooler.

My mother started as a foster parent 10 years ago. She took several groups of kids over 3 years till she had 3 boys come through and after 12 months their biological family failed over and over to get clean or get a stable house. DHS was going to split the boys up and put them back into the system. My mother decided to permanently adopt them rather than have them be split up.

7 years with the boys and they're just getting worse and worse. They have weekly psychiatric individual and group counseling. The youngest has been banned from school for the last 6 months, he's just now allowed to go back for two half days. The eldest ran away last year and got into some serious drugs and theft, he's now in juvie and even when he gets out he's got a least a year of rehab and probation.

I just got a call from my mother crying from the most recent outbursts she's used all of DHS and the school district's options and she's thinking having the adoption annulled.

I was a therapeutic foster kid for 5 years. They split us all up. Looking back on it, I could never have one in my home. Good luck, OP

Sounds like they are self destructive and ready to take your family down with them. It is a sad state, but they need professional help.

Cruel as it sounds, I had a friend who became a foster parent, and after all the shit she went though, I'd never even consider it. 1/2

Pragmatically, you're not getting Sweet Sally Sunshine who's parents tragically died. Those kids have extended family. You're getting 2/3

kids who's extended family, if any, didn't want them, or kids who were born into a life of drugs and crime and rarely escape it. 3/3
