Sadly, I find the majority of little libraries in my city are where shitty books are left to die. Like, 90% are rotting paperbacks, copies of Twilight, and outdated advice books from the 80s. I’ve only ever found two or three books that interested me enough to take home and read (and only one of them I liked enough to finish). Still, I can’t help but take a peek whenever I pass one.

The public library in my town has a small 3D printer and relevant software installed on all their computers so you can practice the relevant skills. Only cost is a few cents for the plastic used to print your objects, just like the cost for printing paper documents and copies.

I run the Library of Things in my town. $50 once a year and we have 900 different tools you can borrow as much as you like - power tools, garden stuff, camping gear, sewing machines, kitchen mixers, carpet cleaners etc etc. It's such an amazing service. If you live in a decently sized north American city take a look and see if you have a LOT in your area!

there were some of those little library's that were put up in the neighborhood over the past few years. ive enjoyed them a lot. recently some psychos been going around and yanking out all the books that have any technology, magic, monsters from horror, LGBTQ+ and sex written about in them and replacing them with christian propaganda books and anti LGBTQ+ material. even putting up fliers with blasphemy this and your going to hell that. real christo-fascist shit. now the libraries are disappearing

ive been tearing the bullshit fliers down and ive checked some of the writers of some of those books and thrown out some of the most egregious shit. i dont think "Living in a Gray World: A Christian Teen’s Guide to Understanding Homosexuality", "Pursuing Sexual Wholeness: How Jesus Heals The Homosexual" and a new one "Irreversible Damage" are proper reading material.

I forget the actual term for it, but it can be crime to take something being offered for free, for a purpose contrary to the offerors intent, like taking a whole bowl of Halloween candy. Idea being that the consent was limited, and when taking something outside of that purpose the consent doesn't apply.

Yeah, but it sounds like this is one person doing this in a whole bunch of these minilibraries. If you've got them going from one to another removing these books it makes it a lot harder to deny that they're trying to the library of the right to offer them to people who want to read them. Could be enough to get a cop to do a bin search, and if they show up in the trash...

both actually. five are on peoples property. ive talked to the owners and none of them are were anti lgbtq and were unaware of the fliers. only two said they identified as christians but were unhappy to hear about what someone did to their little libraries and were fine with me tossing the hatefull books. the other three are in parks one of which is called pride park. its like a .25 acre little slip. it keeps getting trashed and i keep cleaning it up.

The last books I borrowed from a library got burned. Not by any fault of a human, just the house they were in burned down. Rather unfortunate but I guess those gardening books just weren't suitable for our climate.

Idk why but it reminds me when I had to study biochemistry and didn't understand so I summoned an army of ADHDers whose entire existence depended on their obsession over biochemistry. That's kind of like summoning the great old ones.. Worked too, I got over 80% on my exam.
