GSD's 100 years ago were capable of straight up jumping over 6-8 foot trench walls. Not so much nowadays with the terrible breeding from the past century.
If you have a GSD / Husky / Escape artist breed, it's your responsibility to make sure you put measures in place to prevent this. You can get attachments for fences that make it impossible for any dog to jump.
My dog won't even cross the road without a command, so even if he did ever escape (it's happened once in 6 years, guests fault), he would just sit on the edge of the path near my house. I wanted a big dog, so I made damn sure that I trained him well.
IMO, any breed larger than a 'medium size' should require a licence of some kind. Too many teenagers near me are getting rotties and XL bully's, then putting no time into training them. They give us large breed owners a bad name.
