I see your point. But I think the environment would have been just fine with those levels of carbon release forever. The industrial revolution and subsequent population explosion really were the start of these global issues.
It's the main reason we did so well in prehistoric times. We could out jog any species. Out sprint them? Nope. Out sneak them? Most often, nope. We could exhaust them by keeping them running. Then they were easier to take down.
