What about inverting the idea: weighted voting could be "give more votes to people who need the most help". So in other words, if you are working and are low income, you get more votes. If you are wealthy or retired, you get just 1 vote.
This is great. Hurting corporate wallets is the most effective way to elicit change. But corporations own so many things, so its easier to boycott branded products.

"don't know where that $25B came from" shows you dont know who the customers are or how the business works.
Demand for tokens is so astronomically high that large portions of American infrastructure and supply chains -- electricity, manufacturing, data centers, raw materials, etc -- are failing to keep up. These companies are propping up the american economy scrambling to build all this, hence the insane loses. But as long as demand is there, there will be investment dollars to keep it alive.

And you're right that AI ad income has yet to be proven. It hasn't been much a priority right now because VC dollars are keeping things afloat. But openAI does already have $25B in annual revenue, mostly from corporate spend. It's not that far out from being break-even even without consumer spend or ad revenue.
consumers don't pay for things. eg demand for porn is much higher than the willingness to pay.
There are lots of ways to make money, and usually the most lucrative isn't by charging consumers directly. For example, consumers would rather browse the internet for free and instead pay a hidden 10-50% markup on everything because companies are pricing in their facebook and google ad revenue.
the fact people are using it this much shows there is actually utility / demand for it. Some of it is unproductive or harmful, a lot of it is questionable in value, and some is genuinely helpful.
It's a little too late to stop it given the reception, but it's not too late to figure out how to skew the behavior, outcomes, and regulation to be a net positive on society

Consumers cant tell if food is good or not, especially for highly processed foods that don't have obvious fungus/smell/taste issues. It's also unrealistic to expect consumers to develop an intuition of what "old" means by each food type, which also varies by brand based on preparation style, storage expectations and ingredients.
I think "manufactured" and "use by" are good enough. Merchants can decide whether or not to put it on shelves provided its before the "use by" date.

I think its a hard to sell this form of morality. It requires expecting hundreds of millions of people to have deep understanding of historical events, thread the needle into how they personally benefit from it, feel personal connection to the problem and the need to rectify it, and find a targeted policy or practice to start course correcting.
It's a lot easier to tell someone to "be kind to your neighbor, volunteer more, interact with people who aren't like you to widen your experiences".

The argument I should feel guilty is based on a non-universal morality -- that i have civic responsibility simply by existing (and benefitting) in society that exploited people. And while i do have this sense of morality, i'm not convinced its rational to expect it from others
