It's irritating that "sexy" cosplay is what's always featured. Do they even care about/know their character or is it just an attention grab?

Does anyone know: Are these toys? Sculptures? CGI? Color pencil on paper? Actors? Real life events? They seem awfully detailed & versatile.

This is fundamentally correct. If enough people conistently behave in some way, it can become part of a groups perceived reputation.
And unless you did something objectively wrong, if they don't have some sense of impartiality, they are not worth having as friends.
