They don’t believe so, but in many eyes they have. Most of the checks and balances seem to be broken now. But having a felony be a disqualification to election is an easy way to prevent a candidate from being able to run against you.
Just re-read slowly what I wrote originally. It answers this exact question. The voters are supposed to be the checks and balances
I understand the sentiment, but that makes it easy for a regime to prevent a candidate from running. If they had a sympathetic court system they could just bring a bogus charge against the potential candidate and push it through the courts. Once they had the conviction, they would be ineligible to run.
AFAIK it’s an ADU and electric and internet was included in rent. Not sure what electric rates are in CA but being home all day could impact the bill a bit I’m sure.
