Most professionals won't jump to put you in the hospital unless they see an immediate threat Most will work with you on it and help you cope

It is an or, if you work with the therapist and let them help you. While it may not "cure" your depression, you'll have ways to work past it
I want to remind you that a therapist can't help unless they know what's going on. Losing freedom is better than suffering with depression.
