It could be in this instance, but a court ordering medical care isn't exclusive to that. It's generally more of a last resort when someone's judgement is considered to be either compromised or just so unbelievably bad that the court is basically going to appoint someone ELSE (who is saying to do the damn procedure) to be in charge of all their medical decisions. Usually, it's for situations like major dementia, or a cult member refusing to allow their child to receive basic lifesaving treatment.

The thing is, if we were ACTUALLY focusing on those other things, that would be fine. There are easily dozens of international issues that are a bigger deal than which map distortion we're going to think is "best" this week. But they don't actually WANT to focus on more important things (if they did, they'd just abstain and move on to them), what they actually want is the excuse to throw yet another little bitch fit about how "woke" is changing everything.
The point of Pratchett's boots story is about the cost of constantly needing to replace cheap things. What precisely are you doing with your tupperware that you're wearing it out and destroying it with anywhere near the frequency that that thing becomes "the cheaper product"? Nicer... sure. And that's fine. But to hell with the material science- it doesn't take NASA levels of engineering for a dish to hold butter.

It IS a double standard, but it basically evolves from the information imbalance in job hunting. A future employer might call your previous job, giving them the opportunity to paint you as a bad employee. We don't have the same luxury to talk to former employees at the new job (who would know if the role you're about to take is a circus of shit). So for us, it's usually advantageous to avoid twisting the knife, while companies usually don't have to give a shit if they screw you over.

Even if I could get over the anxiety of fumes or chemical reaction that might kill ME, I can't imagine spraying your ENTIRE FIELD with a new chemical without having tried it out, at least in a small trial run.

FWIW- it looks like it's Trump's company CLAIMING that investment companies are paying them for it. So... it may or may not even be true. And even if it is, for $100k, I would guess those shelling out for it are primarily interested in currying favor with the Cheeto in Chief, making it less about insider trading and more about thinly legitimized bribery.

Dementia Donald really banked nearly his entire second term that Iran was going to fold up nice and easy, and it didn't (shocking absolutely no one with more brains than God gave a chipmunk). He already had no credibility (outside his cult of personality) and this has demonstrated that not even a war against a long-time ideological enemy will help boost his numbers. 2/2

He's pissed off and alienated our allies, used a large portion of our munitions, depleted a sizable amount of the strategic petroleum reserve, and has already tried and failed starting a war to improve his domestic appeal. Either Trump blusters his usual BS and throws in the towel early, or we'll be in for some pretty high /1
China... maybe or maybe not. It doesn't take a strategic genius to know that China's likely goal would concern Taiwan. If we WERE actually prepared for that possibility (can't be sure, but we probably at least would have given China something to consider) we're FAR less so now. And we can't replace those munitions overnight. For Russia, if Ukraine is any guide, then in a conventional military conflict, yeah, we would have been in a reasonably advantageous position, at least until Trump.

Most states they're legal, they just require a frankly stupid amount of paperwork and hassle for what is literally just the equivalent of a muffler.

You'd also have gotten the order confirmation email right after you placed the order, so either you ALSO got the shipping confirmation (in which case, you got the goddamn tracking information) or it hasn't shipped yet (which I'll grant you, sometimes annoying, but most places these days do a good job at tracking inventory, so you probably knew that when placing the order in the first place that it was gonna be a while).

During WWII, the Brits endured the Blitz, and the US tolerated significant rationing of everyday items (including fuel) for YEARS, something that would be considered unthinkable under typical conditions, and never came anywhere close to breaking.
AKA it's using the compatability questionnaire stuff these apps use anyways, and auto-matching you past a certain threshold. I give it a shelf life of about 5 minutes until most of the people tricked into trying it get fed up with it doing a crappy job, and about ninety seconds until the "user base" gets flooded with AI chatbots.
A: it's a fairly sporadic occurrence, and only lasts for a pretty short timeframe. B: they typically do what they're told by the party leadership, same as the previous office holder, so there's little to no practical difference in what passes or doesn't. C: the voters overwhelmingly don't give a shit. D: it can come off as petty, spiteful, vindictive or disrespectful. So for those in power, it's a risky waste of political capital on something that's historically been a non-issue, so why bother?
For a lot of states, vacancies are appointed by the state governor, who can choose whoever they want, for whatever reason they want. A family member or surviving spouse of the previous officeholder isn't uncommon, even when they have zero actual experience.
