I ended up with some medical issues that make being in the office problematic so I have been doing software for the last 14 years remotely. In that time I have been laid off a few times but I have always found new employment within a month or two. This latest dry spell... I don't know. I think it has to do with my location (Hawaii), more than the remote thing. Mainland companies that don't already employ in Hawaii seem to be loathe to register to employ in Hawaii. /shrug
LOL Well I guess in that regard the Infantry turned me into a code writing machine. How is that Cisco thing? Can you do it remote? Is the market still good? I have been unemployed (self employed doing small time contract work) for over a year and cannot for the life of me get an interview as a software engineer with nearly 20 years of experience.
Entered 1998, got out 2006. That was enough. I tell people that I got an education in the Army that you cant get many other places for better or worse. Not sure I would do it again though. I can pack anything into any other thing, but at the cost of future sleep, anxiety, and a few years of nearly perpetual anger, pretty sure it wasnt worth it.
Whew that was close. I ETSed after getting back from an Afghanistan rotation and I had to get an exception to policy to duck out of a STOPLOSS (for the Iraq surge) myself. Pain in the ass. Damned good thing I got out too, I was quickly losing my sanity.
Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear that. Still there? Out now?
Only enough states to comprise the 270 EC votes necessary to win. We have been close-ish for quite a while now. The states who have not signed on are unlikely to do so in my opinion.
I though RIP was just a standard pre-Ranger course at the MACOM or Division level, not specifically a prerequisite for Ranger Batt selection. Granted, this was 27 years ago, so huge grain of salt, the old memory is faulty and full of holes. We had one LT who came to us who knew his shit. He went out to every training event, and he paid attention and ran through it along with everyone else. THAT guy, he was a good leader. He stood up for his joes and was down in the mud with us.
I can attest to this. I was 11B in 25th. We had a platoon leader in another platoon come in, no tab. I don't recall what his story was, but he was given effectively no respect for nearly a year before he finally went to RIPP and Ranger school. Also, prior to Ranger, old boy could not read a map to save his life. Pretty sure he had to learn while he was there cause I don't recall any incidents after he came back.
Here is hoping. I am on the Big Island and it hasn't done anything to us. But it should start hitting Kauai around Monday morning or so looks like. https://zoom.earth/maps/precipitation/#view=19.213,-155.9308,7z/model=icon/overlays=fires
If you are still on Kauai, be careful out there. We got a hurricane bout to fuck shit up.
I was fully expecting the original Final Draft to talk a bunch of shit and then turn to leave and it turns out she has no pants or something else glaringly obviously wrong.
Other considerations aside, $5 million? For a national level database project? That thing is going to be a shit show.
Between that and "Why shouldn't I think about killing outworlders? Have they stopped thinking about killing me?" You go, Bonnie. Kill them all.
TBM is my fave. "Youre wearing a mask right now, Donut, and you don't know how to remove it. Thats OK. You dont need to. Not yet. That mask is protecting you... So I need you to keep that mask on. But one day, one day youll find yourself someplace safe and without worries, and without everyone watching, and it will fall right off. And it will hurt. You will cry for F___s, and G___, and Y_____ and B______ and everybody else weve lost along the way and youll be glad you had it on the whole time."
Oh no. They've been released as a movie and not one god damned thing has been done about them.
And its almost like nobody in power is interested in doing anything substantive in fucking punishing him.
To this she says "Why shouldn’t I think about killing outworlders? Have they stopped thinking about killing me?" And that perfectly encapsulates the issue doesn't it? The billionaire class may not think about me specifically, and they may not even think in terms of "Imma kill a bunch of poors today." but the god damned well do shit that kills us if it maximizes profits. So fuck em. I'll continue thinking about it as long as they keep doing it. 2/2
Some years back I picked up Dungeon Crawler Carl. "Its a book about a guy in his underwear and his talking cat doing a dungeon game, right?" At one point in the story, a little 8-year-old Gnome girl who is an NPC in the game, perhaps the most downtrodden class of entity in the story is fighting in a war and she is told that she shouldn't be thinking about killing the people on the other side (people who pay to kill people in the dungeon). 1/2
God damnit if we keep having to have this fucking conversation, I am going to start demanding special rights for them just to piss the fucking transphobes off!
Have they stopped trapping and selling the horses? My wifes parents had two mustangs that they purchased from BLM back in the 80s.
Everybody wants some!
I don't know what the hell your doing you weird little armored sea rat, but you need to do what my brother says or I'm gonna come over there aND BREAK YOU IN HALF!
Nah nah. Companies don't want to do a few days paid leave any more. They do "Unlimited" PTO. They figured out if there was not a limit then the employee would question how much was too much and would end up not taking as much leave.
I was looking for a comment like this. I am not disappointed. Long days, pleasant nights, weary traveler.
Odette, is that you? Where are the crab legs? And the hilariously oversized boob armor?
I'm doing my best. I give what I can, and when I can, but it is getting harder and harder all the time.
I recall a story about Kristofferson putting Toby Keith in his place after Toby made a snide comment about Kristoffersons "lefty shit". Fuck you, Toby, and your shitty song.
It is one of my favorite songs. It accurately describes the hyper-real, slightly burnt, resurgent edge feeling of living too hard and using a substance just to get by.
"Mr President, Sir, thank you for making the gas cheap again. We all love you, and you are the worst treated human in history, Sir."
For four fucking years I heard "Trust the system." regarding Garland prosecuting Trump. Well the system fucked us. It failed us. The next go around, fuck trusting the system. Force the system. Ride it like you fucking stole it. Harp on it every god damned chance you get. Do not let it rest until it does what you want. Threaten, cajole, beat it into working the way it is supposed to.
