I suspect it's the same rough mindset of teenage/young males thinking "Wow, it would be awesome to work designing video games/in the adult film industry." not realizing how much darn work and lack of fun the actual execution is/often can be. Except in this case it's women who have been stressed out by life/motherhood and go, on the same level, "I can relate." Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to ignorance and exhaustion.
The problem is, I think, is that the Jefferson types realized that an educated public might start asking questions about stuff like slavery, which was such a thorny malignant issue it's still infesting us TODAY. And I honestly wonder if they went "This can't be solved, better that people not understand." Who knows, I'm not a time traveler or a mind reader.
And as Uvalde showed, if something happened that actually REQUIRED tactical military hardware, like, I don't know, something akin to the Warriors except it was made entirely of murderous psychopaths attacking a city, the cops seem more likely to just drop their weapons and run away with piss dribbling down their leg. The moment I heard Iran was going "We will not negotiate with Trump ever again, we will negotiate with the new government in 2029", I became deeply concerned that sort of ego wound would be enough to push Trump into seriously attempting to deploy a nuke. All we can do is hope in the fact 1) It is not a push the button process, 2) It's MTG and even if she's having a broken clock moment it's still MTG.

I saw someone recently who said that he gives them the "Trumpcard Wildcard". He gives them a 'Anything I do is right' (the wildcard) that 'beats everything' (The trump card). In essence, all they care about is 'not being wrong'. For that, anything is permitted. The fact that he's such a failure, yet he 'gets away with everything' is their dream.
The saddest part? This is prime evidence...that America is STILL among the better countries in the world. In many others, in history and probably today, Fauci would have been show-trialed and shot long ago. The fact that for all this nonsense, it's still worlds better than the 'usual' response really says a lot about degrees when assessing bad things.

To be ABSOLUTELY UTTERLY FAIR, these sort of things can have terrible knock on effects that 'normal people' don't cause...but there's a difference between treating an injury and, I don't know, turning someone into a king who never has to do anything ever again, in the best analogy I can think of.
