I react primarily using out-of-context panels from El Goonish Shive, the best webcomic ever made. If you haven’t seen it, you should *definitely* check it out: https://www.egscomics.com/comic/2002-01-21

Could I get the STL for this? I kinda want to print this now.

I never understand the commenters complaining about an artist’s self-promotion. You can just keep scrolling if you don’t like it.

Ah ok, looks like parallax was the method I thought of, but one that only works for nearby stars

How in general do you tell how far objects on the order of billions of light years away are?

That poor weasel, born without arms or legs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if those two have actually been based on dozens of different real-life rivalries throughout the years. A writer could’ve been thinking of Othniel Charles Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope for all we know.

That said, X-Men is such a long running comic with so many different authors that at this point, it could very well could’ve been a metaphor for all six of those people throughout its lifetime. It’s not unheard of for fan discourse and interpretations to make it into the actual comics, so the prevalence of the MLK/Malcom X interpretation may very well have found its way into later comics, at least to some small extent.

Actually it’s even worse than that, Chris Claremont, the writer who originally came up with Magneto’s back story, compared them to David Ben-Gurion and Menachem Begin respectively, two Israeli prime ministers.

Correction: I just found out that according John Byrne, the artist who portrayed the X-Men in the 70s, Lee and Kirby and actually based Professor Xavier and Magneto on Franklin D. Roosevelt and Adolf Hitler respectively. The comparisons to MLK Jr. and Malcom X were only made later when Magneto was rewritten to be slightly less racist.

I’m sorry, is that pun reaching too high?

I mean, iirc they’re supposed to be stand-ins for Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X respectively, so take as you will.

No no this is a funny meta joke

A literal murderer who stabbed his bandmate to death and practices a strange, proto-European variety of neo-Nazism along with an obsession with Norse paganism. Yep, that’s exactly the kind of person a parody book cover like that could reference as an obscure bit.

I don’t get it, what’s wrong with the author name?

A classic, truly. Whoever made that animation is obviously the most fuckable person in any grocery store they walk into.

It was said pretty much immediately after the girl in glasses says it wasn’t a style, too. The entire point is that she’s wrong.

That’s always my answer. Like, you could technically do it with just two, but it wouldn’t be stable or look like a pile in the traditional sense.
