Well, to be fair. Normally sand is coming from weathered and eroded rock, and if you crush rocks to the size of sand, i wouldn't say that it would normally qualify. Sand, the substance, would naturally be a mixed bag of many different minerals and it is very unlikely to consist of a single mineral. And if you take one single grain out, is it then still sand? Well, it is a single grain that is sand sized. And it will behave as that.
Let us also go with the post. If it is aragonite. Then it is a small SAND grain of aragonite. If we have a larger piece of aragonite, let us say a chunk, and you hammer a small piece. Then that can be a sand grain of aragonite. It could also be a granule or pebble. Depending on size
Grains go into different names depending on their sizes. Example the smallest size is clay, then silt, and then sand. After that you have gravel, and boulders. These names and categories vary by nation and language. Sand also need to stem from rocks and the like. Glass as an example can not become sand because of its composition and have no mineral structure. Shells from mussels can become sand as a different example. Search sedimentology if you want to know more.
Sand is a grain size
Or it could also have been dumped. But yes, check to see if it missing first is the way to do it

Okay, sure. The pavement is absorbent. BUT, the driving factor that makes it absorbent is its permeability.
steal asphalt?
Absorbent means that water is sort of attracted to the medium, like a sponge. This is plain permeable.
