The purpose of language is to convey ideas, so it should naturally evolve in ways that improve understanding.
I don't think the English language is going where you think it's going, though. I want English to become more beautiful.
Language changes though, and the rules need to change with it.
People are using the rule wrong because the rule is no longer relevant. Rules should describe language, not define it.
I could say that it makes less sense, though. The word less has evolved to take over the meaning of fewer.
Like for instance, the past tense form of lie is lay. How messed up is that? It doesn't even sound past tense.
Of course, but then I'm allowed to publicly complain about the rules that I believe don't make sense and that actively make English worse.
One at a time? but I eat until only one of each color is remaining, then eat all those at once.
The distinction between less and fewer is completely unnecessary and does nothing to improve communication.
I'm all for correct grammar, but there's a lot of stupid rules in English, and I don't condone following stupid rules. I'm sorry.
