It also creates discomfort when you realize (or even just question) how your parents may not have been perfect when you were a child.
People would rather say, "I got spanked, and it didn't hurt me! I turned out fine!" than do research.
I find it incredibly disappointing that all the bad comments are similar in sentiment to yours...
A belt can be an effective weapon.
I have seen this done in many different stores as decoration for several years now...it's not unique to Japan...
