You could just read the Wiki page for the ballad and see that Hood killed a dozen guards who were trying to capture him after he went into the city because he wanted to go to church. Also, Hood was perfectly fine when Little John and Much murdered the monk, his page (a child) and the jailer in order to rescue him

So, you are just going to ignore the innocent people he killed? Not the guards, but the innocents as well. I guess you are OK with the term "collateral damage" when the outcome is something that you want to see.
Did you miss the part where he killed people? Not all of them were corrupt oppressors. Some of them were guards or innocent people who happened to be in the way. He was ruthless in his pursuit of corruption, and he didn't care. But, he was devout in his desire to never harm women, so I guess that makes him a good guy.
He didn't give the money he stole to the poor, like in the modern versions.
