Me thinking that bear on the flag looks weird before realising it's only got one head.
He disliked it as an imposition or the author's will over the imagination of the reader. So I think he'd say that Colbert can make all the parallels he wants. On the other hand, Tolkien would have also profoundly despised the Trump administration.
Which is an incredibly conservative thing to do. The belief that without order or without something superior imposing their will on everyone we would all be absolute monsters is the textbook conservative cope for their own insufficiencies.
