Backstory is the part of a character's story that isn't interesting enough to play out at the table. Just tell me why they're going to go *adventuring* rather than have a reliable job.

Abstract information is almost impossible to retain with any accuracy or for a long period. You have to explain why it has to be this way!
N64 "essentials": Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario 64, and Banjo-Kazooie, and I'd also put forward Majora's Mask. If you like OoT and just "want more" then look into the randomiser scene for it, I played that quite heavily for a while.
