No1 priority is your own safety. Charging in cause you think making the environment safe is a waste of time just makes you a casualty too.

Nothing compares to the rush or reward. Amazing highs and extreme lows but I wouldn't change for the world nor would any firefighter I know.
The Rural Fire Service in Australia is the largest fire service in the world and it is volunteer.
It is also really hard to stand back and do nothing. It's why most of us are in this job. So we have to training to help when we can.
We often don't, but it is a constantly changing scene so something that didn't seem dangerous (like saving a pet) can change in an instant.
These guys become like family very quickly when you have been on the fireground for 24+ hours and they still standing next to you with (1/2)
