Had to look it up. Apparently the sprue is the main border and the runner are the smaller channels inside holding the parts, but both terms are used interchangeably.

I was going to say insects aren't animals, but a quick search showed they are in fact within Kingdom Animalia (and in fact make up the majority of animals on Earth). I learned something today!
