I think this would be a family pet.
Frozen half-eaten carrion someone decided to prop up.
Bats are one of the main carriers of rabies where I am. Bats have a strain of their own that spreads between bats instead of via predator bites.
Tv shop stuff is largely solutions to made up problems made cheap in sweatshops. Useful, not-single purpose tools for disabled are sold elsewere. The misconception that goes around internet is like that post on tumblr that invented modern endings to old sayings and now people quote it as a fact.

Freshly caught wild bird has plenty of salmonella, it's part of their natural guy flora. Same with reptiles.
And cats and dogs are immune to it. If they weren't, wild cats and wolves would be all dead.
Raw chicken is fine for dogs and cats unless it's been treated with something dangerous.
It's toxic to most of them...
If the Golf stream craps out it would likely mean summers so cold the crops would fail.
