I actually liked the original British version more. It had an amazing improv team. If you've only seen the US version you're missing out!
It's a 360 camera on a stick. The software automatically paints the stick out. I have one... They're pretty fun.

... it has cables coming off the suit to the capture computer. Later we got a full optical setup with a warehouse sized volume. Much better.
For the first two seasons we only had a magnetic motion capture suit. It was big and bulky with a small volume of about 7’ and...

Yeah. I burnt out I would miss the premieres too! But I bought the DVDs and caught up. There were five different teams making by the show.

It was hard. We would magnet mo-cap then work on facial animation while we waited for the mo-cap to be filtered back into Lightwave.

I actually worked on Roughnecks back in 1999-2000. We only had four weeks to make each episode. It was hard work but seriously fun.
I have a cheap $180 one I bought online called an A8. It works well... but it was a pain to assemble it!
