Yes pretty much this. If you already have a fear of something - you'll usually avoid it. It when you DON'T realise sth it becomes a problem.
But many a childhood year spent in Clifton Moor! :) Alas, I live in Bristol so it's a little too far for a day trip :(
My grandrents lived in York so it was always a cool place to visit. Unfortunately, they are no longer with us so I haven't been in ages! :(

From a photographers perspective - I would say it's probably a good idea.
