They picked her up & woke me up 2 in the morning to thank me. I was too sleepy to even talk properly, but nevertheless, very happy things had turned out well. So, Mr Irishman, this little novela is the only written proof that your kindness to a complete stranger of a 21 year old, was appreciated, and gratefully paid forward. I'll always remember your kindness & pay it forward in this world. ❤️
She had managed to hitchhike to the RB road turn off along the main road. Which meant she was still about 30 mins driving away, on foot. In complete darkness, on an unlit road. It was getting late already, and ofc they were really worried for her. I gave them the keys to my car & told them to go pick up their friend. In Europe, that would never happen, because you'd never see your car again. But in Oz ppl understand the value of looking out for one another, and I very much agree w that.
I was spending the weekend with my colleagues in Rainbow Beach, QLD. (It's a gorgeous place, if you ever get the chance, go!) Thing is, Rainbow Beach is really inaccessible unless you have a car or a tour bus. I had a little white 1984 Mazda 323, who was not long for the world but ran like a charm. I called her Black Betty (for the soundtrack & because she was white, obvs). It was evening in the hostel, & I overheard this German couple talking about their friend coming to join them in RB.
Next time I went to Dublin, I went to every Post Office in the city center. I realised I didn't have much to go by considering he'd surely changed his shirt, & my panicked brain barely remembered his face. But I tried, & didn't find him. So I decided to pay forward his kindness instead. And in 2007 I got the chance to!
He understood the foreign girl was going to the airport. I asked if he had any idea when we could get moving again, he said it might be a while. I got visibly more nervous, but changed the subject to pleasantries, since there was nothing him or I could do about it. He had me a 20€ note & said "Go get a taxi for your flight. If you ever come back to Dublin, I work in the Post Office." He might have told me his name, but I was so panicked I just ran out of the bus. I did make my flight!
Back in 2005 or 2006 I was in my young 20ies, visiting Dublin & my Aussie friends for the weekend. I had been guarding the spending of my exchanged money carefully, down to the last cent. Which is why I was on a local bus to the airport (cheaper!). The bus stopped & stayed. I started getting nervous about the time, and asked this man in a yellow shirt in front of me, if he knew what was going on. He kindly told me the bus had broken & we were waiting for a replacement.

Very much into abortion, & a strong advocate for it. This baby was very much planned & wanted tho, which makes the decision a whole other kettle of fish. Indeed, nobody does an abortion for the fun of it, it's a really hard decision to make.
