I bought mine for $72k in '98. It was old, basic, and neat/clean, but emphasis on old (1817). I've spent the last almost 30 years, slowly spending what I could each year to make it better. It's now worth about $150k. I ain't rich, I'm certainly not an asshole, and I pay the same bills everyone else does nowadays. Anyone who tells you to stop spending ~ $75 a month on XYZ and you'll do better, is a delusional asshole.

My plumber hired a kid, he was warned multiple time to not be on his phone at work, finally had to fire him a few weeks later after the owners of the home they were working in, saw the kid surfing porn on his phone. He followed that with, "I have shit on my hands every damn day, don't tell me I won't do work that I ask you to do, either". I'd say there's two sides to this....
