This looks great! I do recommend not rendering out a certain area straight away, instead focus on the values all over and build from there.

To give is a more laser look, add white in the center or a light red. Then strands of the same color as you get closer to the edges.

Work in a lower sub division level to block out the main features. Once you have that, then you can sub divide. Keep practicing!
