We're an indie game developer focused on replayability in games.

On PC? I'm trying to decide which version to get.

Oh no, I just looked it up to answer your question. My game doesn't sound like it would appeal to you, at face value.

Yes. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.FireproofStudios.TheRoom It's $0.99 and there's a few sequels too.

You can't really. These days you just have to make a good game and make it free to play with no ads. Not being sarcastic, this is what works

2/2 it's dead in the water. even if the game is really good. The riskiest games are ones that require popularity to even function.

It's not a trivial undertaking, that's for sure. MMOs specifically are the do or die of gamedev. If it's not immediately popular then 1/2

Which is probably why I get emailed about publishers wanting to partner up all the time.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, I did. It's out there and 100% ad free, I'm happy to say :)

Good question. I would think the devs, but I'm a little bias. If I were being cynical, I'd say some marketing person.

Yea, I mean my game is doing pretty well, which is why I normally ignore these emails. Now I will ignore them on principle.

2/2 make money on of their investment without being this exploitive. For them, it's a very calculated numbers game where 50% churns a profit

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I started by telling them I won't do ads and they ignored it and wanted me to add them anyway. I don't think there's a way for them to 1/2

I think this is the result of such publishers. You sign a contract with them and are forced to exploit your players like this. I hate it.

Agreed. Self advertising is hard. Luckily ratings and reviews can help a good product stand out, which helps with that.

That's crazy. What really grinds my gears is watch to win ads.

Idle games have been pretty big lately (games where you have things happening while you're away). Might be something there you'd like.

Snake... SNAKE?... SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!!?!

Huh, interesting. Good for them! I guess my point about who posts what is moot though. Still, the dev their own games. These guys don't.

P.S. Cannot wait for Spider Heck!

I like tinybuild games, met those guys at PAX ~6 years ago. They are successful, but if I had to guess, they post here themselves.

(for reference, my own game takes ~30 seconds to play, but throwing knives is pretty mindless)

That's tough. If it's quick to play it's going to be a little mindless, potentially. If you can play with others, I recommend Space Team.

I mostly see indie devs posting on imgur. Publishers like these have strict methods for their money printing machines.

What are you looking for in a "good mobile game"?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll have to check it out. Enter the Gungeon is def my jam! (even mentioned in in a previous post on great games to play)

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most of these games are free to play. They just have exploitive practices in how they present ads.

What about games w/o any kind of saving? Roguelikes, games with checkpoints, etc?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't divine intent, and personal preference certainly is a thing. I'm only questioning cases where you go against preference to win.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely not. I would only question whether that fun is as lasting as a well put together game as opposed to a novelty.
