Lots of facilities have a barrier policy, especially AZA accredited, for large animals like elephants, tigers, and gorillas.

Worked with them at the SA Zoo. Crested Seriema. We had one that liked to try and stand on your shoulders/head!
Yeah zookeepers get nothing for the work! I knew ppl with roomates plus at least 2 jobs to stay afloat. Why I got out doing that work.
I used to work as a zookeeper there. Visiting is actually nice! Working not so much. One of the lowest paid zoo workers out of all AZA.
Really great as pets. They have personalities and easy to care for. Recommend a small breed for first timers like a Hermann or Russian.
Hermann tortoises! They make great pets.
Not a secretary bird. Also secretary birds will eat other animals other than snakes.
You are right. A secretary bird uses it's legs/ raptor talons to kill and is in a completely different genus.

Actually traditionally they do. But it's very uncommon nowadays. Source- married to Korean who saw elders eat dogs when he lived there.

Late reply! But I worked with all kinds at the zoo. Many endangered species such as Micronesian kingfishers and Laysan teals.
Most birds have poor sense of smell. More like getting different angle to double check/ look for hair. Beaks are like hands for birds.

Haven't seen them around in forever! Where can you still get them?! Or have they made a comeback?

If you don't have the space consider a small breed of tortoise. Some species grow too big for most people to handle. I have a small Hermann.
Hey I work with birds and they are awesome! But not these...they are spazzy. Don't know why you would choose these species for a tv shoot...
I work with some of these guys. Very cool birds. They do that with pecans we feed them to crack them open. Can be social and imprinted.
Forgot to mention the ones with barriers are crane and some raptor exhibits. People like to put fingers through fencing and bars....for fun.
We also have bird walk through exhibits where people will try to catch the birds. Some have been stolen or hurt by both parents and children
We have a few. The ones I take care of are bird exhibits. There are plants and fencing but you can reach over if you put an effort. (1/2)
I'm a zookeeper. I hate bad parents. Even see them encouraging their kids to touch our wild animals thru bars/fencing.
