I don’t know; I’m in Canada so I haven’t seen that. It is possible that other geo databases have added both names if they serve any American applications. Or they may have rules about labelling things with contested names. Without a specific example, we cant really know or even guess as to why the name is appearing the way it is.
Oh, and if anyone wants to come in and claim that the election was rigged, that Trump has admitted to it, etc. etc. etc. Fine. Let’s assume that’s true. What are you doing about it? You’re like the parent watching the toddler throw things onto the floor at the grocery store saying “yup, he sure does throw a tantrum, wish somebody would discipline him”. But it’s not like the disease is isolated to a malignant tumour that can be cut out. It’s everywhere, all over America. And the rest of the world is fed up with ALL of you.
As a Canadian, this is one of the reasons why I’m so tired of hearing Americans say “but it’s not all of us!” Yes. It is all of you. Not every single individual, no. But there’s nowhere in America that gets a pass, nowhere that gets to claim he doesn’t represent him, nowhere that gets to be disassociated from the shame, nowhere that doesn’t suffer from the same broken trust with friends and allies around the world. As has been said many times, Trump isn’t the disease, he’s the symptom….
In 2020, at the end of Trump’s first term, he got 38% of the vote in NY state. And in 2024, he got 44%. In california, it was 34% then 38!% This attitude that it was only “backwater hicks from middle America” who voted for him is part of the reason America is in this mess. There’s this notion that there’s a huge cultural divide between red states and blue states, but only to people who are ignorant to how pervasive certain attitudes are *all across america*.
To be clear, Google sources geographic names from government-run databases. So it’s less that Google folded, and more that Google didn’t put in special edge-case handling for one or two silly names coming from the American geo database. But they absolutely could have out in that special edge-case handling if they had a spine.

Basically, iIt’s not reasonable for us to expect parents to sequester children away for 18 years and then introduce a fully-formed well-adjusted adult into society. So any space where it’s reasonable for children to be, like the grocery store, or in a park, or even on a plane, I’m not going to harshly judge a parent if their kid cries or throws a tantrum - those are a part of childhood and growing up. Just don’t take a kid where they shouldn’t be, like a theatre.
It depends on the public setting. Your kid is having a tantrum in the grocery store because they want a certain cereal? Not a problem. They’re upset because they waited in line for a ride and did t make it on? Go ahead and cry! But if somebody takes their kid to a movie theatre and lets them talk or cry during the movie?

It’s weird, I see a lot of people misinterpret what Trump says, often to make it sound dumber than it already was, and then attack that idea instead of what he was actually trying to say - which just feeds into the Trump Derangement Syndrome narrative. An example is back during his first term when “Trump said the moon is part of mars!”, but what he was actually saying was “[mission to] The Moon is a part of [broader mission to] Mars”.
