I genuinely assume that's by design. Setting up multiple flaming pieces with the right measurements would likely be very difficult, and probably end up looking super inconsistent. Using mirrored shots is pretty standard fair with all sorts of film techniques, though I agree in this instance it doesn't really land properly and looks more artificial instead.
Anything which prevents harm to people, or the lack of it would cause harm, should never have a for profit motive
