As a Canadian, there was a point where I cared how the left was fairing in the US in their effort to beat back trumpism. Then you elected him again. Don’t really give a fuck anymore (shit, am I turning republican?!). Honestly, watching your government destroy your whole country from within, just to satisfy billionaires and the corrupt, while still claiming moral supremacy as the greatest country on earth is fucking laughable. You will become North Korea and pushed to the margins eventually.
To quote Anon…”It's not that I have something to hide. I have nothing I want you to see.” To me, that encapsulates everything. Only I can grant access to my thoughts, memories and experiences. You cannot demand them.
And as the US government is making financial decisions on behalf of consumers (e.g. levying tariffs on items to artificially inflate costs, cancelling wind projects to reduce purchase options), then they are Communist? Better to be seen as communist than childfuckers I guess.
Because he’s one of the “good” ones. Hannah Arendt wrote about this 60 years ago.
Quite the list you got there. Read a few and some I’ve never heard of before. Ian M Banks is fantastic and I love the Culture books but The Wasp Factory is the one I think that sticks with me the most. As for Catch 22…god I hated it. Couldn’t get close to finishing it. Never understood the fascination with it but…if you like it then fuck my opinion :)
