1966 Johnson 60hp restoration. Starter motor. Could this condition have caused the whiny/screechy sound? Manual states to only add small amount of lightweight oil to spring. But looks like old grease in there. Would you run gears dry?

Lower unit oil - old Johnson V4 60 HP. ASSESSMENT? No metal flakes but does appear to have two types of fluid. One likely water. Other grey/blue. I did fog the cylinders with seafoam deep creep which likely made its way down into lower unit.

Endoscope photos: 1966 Johnson 60 hp, V4, 2-stroke, outboard. Diagnosis? All 4 cylinders were within 1 psi compression. Have not started it yet. I did fog all cylinders liberally with sea foam-deep creep, penetrating lubricant.

Trouble with new fuel lines. Acts as if fuel pump isn’t working again. Starts, runs for 30 seconds then dies. Possibly no suction because of leak? Any way to get good seal with larger lines.

I think I have water in my lower unit. Replaced with fresh oil. No leaks. Not sure if my lower drain bolt even had a seal. Weird design. Lots of metal shavings though. Might be be that reverse gear. Going to send it tomorrow anyway.

The main hub bolt was about 1/4 turn too loose. I snugged it with hand and all play was gone. Removed all bad/contaminated grease (there was a lot) before taking this video. Bearings have play but seem to roll fine. Replace or clean/re-grease/reassemble

Thanks for the help. Great day on the water. Despite continuous adjustment to air:fuel screw, couldn’t smooth idle, hopefully symptom of incorrect spark plugs (two heat ranges off). Ran great at full throttle though. Reverse wouldn’t work.

Any idea where this busted O-ring goes? It was sitting in the bottom of the bowl when I opened the carb up. Can’t see it in the part diagram. It’s not #27 or #22, those are gaskets and accounted for.
