God, I'm so tired.
So why do we look so apathetic? Because we're too busy trying to survive. I've developed chronic anxiety, have panic attacks, and take anti-depressants to try and keep going despite knowing that there's a strong chance I could become homeless within a decade or two, and there are millions of other people just like me. So please, for the love of Christ and everything that is holy, try to understand that we want things to change, but we're fighting a system designed to stop that from happening. 4/
The United States is designed to vacuum money out of the pockets of the ordinary person and funnel it upwards to a handful of billionaire assholes who only care about getting more money at any cost. The system is designed to keep us poor, and for those of us who realize it, it's even worse because we know how powerless we are to stop it, and all we can do is try to wake as many people up as we can who haven't had their brains turned to sludge by FOX News. 3/
I work a full time union job. I have benefits. I earn over $25 an hour. I am better off than a majority of people in my area, and I can't afford a studio apartment, much less pay for utilities, medical insurance, rent, car payments, gas, and a hundred other things. Hell, I can't afford to live with what I earn. My manager has to work two jobs just to pay the bills because everything is so expensive. Doctor's visit? Over $200. A medical emergency for the family pet? Over $1000. 2/
How dare you. How fucking DARE you. You want to know why we appear so apathetic? Because we are one disaster, one arrest, one mistake away from losing EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. THING. we have. If you don't live in the United States, you cannot fathom what it's like to spend your entire life living paycheck to paycheck with no safety nets to catch you if something goes wrong. Our entire system is designed to bleed you dry, and if you're not a millionaire, you're fucked. 1/

I think there might be a misunderstanding here: To use a war analogy, if you went to the US forces at the Battle of Midway and told them that they would have to fight and suffer in the years to come in order to stop Japan, they would tell you that yeah, they're going to keep fighting because they want to stop Japan, but they're a little busy right now trying to take out the Japanese carriers because that's the most immediate and pressing problem.
It's also important to remember that when evil called to your family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers, they ran to it with open arms... but you didn't. As painful as it was, you resisted, didn't give in, gave evil the finger, and made it through with your soul intact. Hurt, bruised, and bleeding, perhaps, but intact.
I agree with you, but I cannot emotionally handle that right now when I'm dealing with everything going on. One thing at a time.
I think it's nice that the friend wants to thank the OP for making her feel good instead of just taking advantage of her and giving nothing in return (I.E. Trump, Musk, Jobs, etc.).
After the election, I mailed a letter to Harris and begged her to demand a recount and even printed off a list of reasons why the results were suspicious. When she didn't, I wrote her a second letter calling her a coward.

Would have been more productive to give ideas on what to do instead of being a smug "told you so" asshole, so here's some suggestions: Forward this news to everyone you know, tell your city to not have anything to do with Flock and other surveillance systems, join local political action groups, look for any opportunity you have to protest, and let your anger keep you motivated, because anger is more useful than despair, and doing something is better than doing nothing.
Malicious religion does that. Benevolent religion is about becoming a better and more moral person and helping make the world a better place.
The problem is that they're going to have to come out of those bunkers eventually, and if the environment is still hostile to human life, all the money and robots in the world isn't going to save you when food doesn't grow and you melt in heatwaves.
