It highly depends on the quality of the camera, I have been send pictures of portraits of ww2 which I really cant do anything with odd lighting etc. I do know a lot of reanoctors who try to replicate pictures
The shinyness of the helmets is fine (I think) I am experimenting a bit with an Overlay layer(mostly for the skin) over my Multiply layer, I can post how it looks without that overlay layer as well if you want :)
As someone who collects militaria myself, I try to make uniforms look as real (and sometimes used) as possible

Yeah, I have searched far and wide to find any with the patches, but yeah the reason the patches and helmet decals were plucked away are for security reasons. But I am unsure why they censored it (unless the picture was published or something).
I couldn't find much information on that webbing setup. But I think so.
It did have a Dual Driving system (something that was oddly common at that time, the Dutch Pantserwagen M39, French Panhard 178/AMD 35 and Austrian Steyr ADGZ could do this as well)
The colors can be varying, among many collectors/historians/reenactors the saying goes "50 shades of Fieldgray". Especially due to multiple factors, 1943 Italy withdrew leaving Germany with a fast amount of Italian blueish cloth, the addition of wood pulp to the cloth making process which made some uniforms brown instead of greenish grey, and offcourse cloth recieved from the civilians which would be recycled for cloth in uniforms.
I did recall a name Pvt Terry Moore (it could also be Paul) I might need to do a Image Reverse Search (my folders with pictures is filled to the brim)
Yeah Eastern/Central Europe, Cold Galicia, not Spanish, warm Galicia. And indeed against the Russian Empire. Btw no worries about the Galicia problem, whenever I try to google it I also get the Spanish Galicia :'(

yeah they are pretty common in most cities with an old Centre, I think I have seen them in Utrecht as well as Amsterdam.
Yeah the LRDG was a Commonwealth "Commando" unit, they often worked together with the SAS as well

Tbh I have seen people complain about British soldiers, due to colonial history (btw that was a WW2 picture of the West European campaign I believe)
How do you mean? The Pinkish desert paint? I think it was only used by the LRDG (Long Range Desert Group)

They were surprisingly light, not much heavier than a wooden rifle, they were practically two pistols taped together.
That is mostly refering to the M1921 and M1928 Thompsons (the ones with front grips and drum mags)

militaria dealers probably have one, however expect prices of about 600 dollars +, I dont know of any people/companies that make reproductions for reenactment I am afraid.
