I feel like "Good for nothing than rambling" is reductive and euro-centric. The wisdom of elders is not all encompassing, and should be questioned as much as anything else, but there are many things that can only be taught by someone with experience.

What I always find funny about the "strong eat the weak" types is by anthropological record humanity only thrived through social cohesion and cooperation. They tout their lack of ethics as commonplace because otherwise they would have to admit that their failings are not the norm, and that's not a flattering look.
