As powers of 8 instead of 10, thus 243 in octal is 2*64 + 4*8 + 3*1, this means that Octal 31 = 3*8 + 1*1 = Decimal 25, thus Oct 31 = Dec 25
In [Dec]imal/base 10 (which is how we write numbers) 25 is 2*10+5*1, 243 is 2*100 + 4*10 + 3*1, but in [Oct]al/base 8, everything's written>
