Pointe shoes are made in a paper mache fashion, no wood or block. She is actually standing on her toes, albeit supported via the shoe.
But a properly fitting shoe will not give bruised toe nails unless they are dead. Toe pads and spacers definitely help too
SoDanca has also released a plastic shoe, and Grishko has a shoe with a plastic platform but paper/paste shank
Your feet should not look like that with properly fitting shoes. Unless you dance 40 hrs a week en pointe.
They make moon boots for ballet that would make a good base I think!

I'm minoring in Native American studies (live in Montana). All my profs prefer indigenous people's or First Nations.
My mom laughed at how goofy I looked. I then burst into tears in the reception area and she laughed even harder. Stupid Susan.
My family calls it Le Tarj. My mom has worked there for 15 years now
