Nice repair job!
It may be part of an old magnasync film counter.
In the 3rd picture, what's hiding in the within the electrical tape?
That's a nice looking movement
I had success using the ink flush feature when dealing with that same issue.

That's the male end of a sata cable. They are some times used to power an aio.
I'm assuming that cable was for the front usb ports on your case? You should be able to pull that connector out and replace the cable

Early on, I wasn't sure just how much processing power I required. I absolutely agree, I'm sure something lower power could do all that.
My end goal is to have this unit run autonomously. Currently the Pi is processing video with OpenCV, as well as streaming it over wifi.
Jesus, it's like meowschwitz in there.
