I recently bought one of these.
4) If you grow hair in the area where the port is, shave it. I did it every week or so (I also had to shave around my ileostomy... so much fun). Keep some disposable razors handy for this.
3) They'll give you a tube of numbing cream for it. Keep it handy, and follow instructions for using it. You can also use Glad Press-n-Seal paper to cover the site of the port once you've prepped it with numbing cream, rather than an actual medical adhesive thingy - they may or may not actually suggest this, but it's what was recommended to me, and it worked well for the job. 2) You'd be surprised how often you brush that area with your hands or arms. Just after they put the port in, _this will hurt_. Try to avoid doing that. If you can't (I still hit it various times before my skin healed), be ready for it to hurt.(cont'd 2)
