Unfortunately corporations buying up housing isn’t really the main issue either, proven by a pretty substantial amount of study, although this conspiracy seems to persist.

You wanna drive down rent/housing prices? Build more houses. It’s really that simple. Implement more mixed zoning, put money into large housing developments and increase supply.

Housing is like any other product, it will cost only as much as people are willing to pay for it. Build more houses = less demand = more affordable

Buys twitter cause he’s “terrified of the impact social media companies are having on free speech”. Instantly demonetizes Destiny a few weeks ago for being a meanie to trump supporters on twitter. Elon’s just as anti free speech as he claims the left is, he was just upset his opinion was the unpopular one

People really need to stop believing everything is because “lobbyists are paying off the government”. All it does is hurt voter engagement and make people feel like nothing they do can have an impact. On top of that, it isn’t even true. There are some areas where lobbying makes an impact but they’re typically low public investment issues. In almost every case, things are the way they are because that’s how people vote. Healthcare is private because of right wing voters and fear mongering. Vote.

Gotta love Kevin Hart

Lmao you dug up a years old comment about me liking coffee for the flavor rather than the hit of caffeine in order to shit on me. You’re definitely the reasonable one in this engagement

Yes a lot of my comments include me pushing back against the left because it dominates the discourse on this site and it frustrates me to see my political side of the aisle give so much ammunition to actual enemies of security and progress, ie MAGA

All good though just insult and dismiss me instead of thinking

This doesn’t prove your dangerous conspiracy theory, it’s just retelling the well known fact that historically Israel has funneled support to Hamas in order to create a sympathetic competitor to Abbas and therefore prevent a unified Palestinian state that could threaten Israel. But that’s like saying because the US gave support to bin Laden historically when he was a rebel fighter that aligned with its geopolitical interests, it therefore wanted 9/11 to occur. Doesn’t logically follow

Yes Israel has historically provided support in different forms to Hamas in the hopes of providing a competing party in opposition to Abbas. That’s just historical fact, I’m not denying that. However your characterization of this concept is that the IDF is secretly funding Hamas for the purpose of enabling terrorist attacks it can use to justify the retaliatory slaughter of innocent Palestinians. This is outrageously incorrect and downright irresponsible on your part

You make it harder for the rest of us to effect positive political change. You should know that. Your attitude will make the lives of millions tangibly worse, all because you’re privileged enough to be able pick a favorite pet issue all the cool kids are tweeting about and smash all hopes of progress with your reductive understanding of it. But not to worry! There’s no risk to you if trump gets reelected, that’s only for the poors and lgbt and people of color to deal with, you’ll be fine

It actually is. Somehow this issue just infected everyone on the left’s brain, I don’t understand it. Yes, Israel’s blasé approach to target selection is abhorrent and leads to an unacceptable amount of civilian death, but it’s also true that 72% of Palestinians support the October 7th attacks, and that Hamas openly admits to using Palestinian civilians as shields. It’s ok to say both groups are doing bad shit. It’s ok to say that innocent Palestinians deserve better AND Israel can defend itself

Truly the most unhinged comment I’ve seen on Imgur in a while. This site complains so much about right wingers living in a crazy alternate reality and then the same people will turn around and go “actually Hamas is Israeli run, the IDF is a terrorist army”. Like the actual explanation that a century of conflict leads to a whole lot of people on both sides feeling afraid and angry and therefore violent, is somehow completely unbelievable. How do we solve it while living in separate realities?

If you’re using the word bigot to describe Ana Kasparian’s ultra milk toast trans comments then I think you’ve gotta take a break there dude, you’ve lost the plot. Nothing gets done as long as we keep eating our own over tiny disagreements

I in no way mean for this to be insulting, but that’s just due to a simple gap in knowledge. The difference between the creator argument and the natural selection one being that you can close the gap through vigorously tested scientific study on one side while on the other all you can do is believe. So both being incomprehensible to you right now may be true, but my argument would be that you could work to change that quality for one side and not the other

The problem with the concept of trolling to me is that sometimes when there’s a genuine disagreement with someone, it can be easier to label them as a troll and ignore their position instead of having to genuinely examine what you think. One time I disagreed with someone on here that claimed “most Americans are socialists” but instead of a good faith back and forth, I just got “nice try troll” and then zero engagement. TLDR: Ken M = troll. Someone disagreeing with you = not always a troll

There is nothing more privileged than the classic “it doesn’t matter they’re all the same anyway” take. All you’re telling the world is you’re in a position to not be affected by it and you don’t care enough about all of the struggling people for whom it makes a HUGE difference, to actually engage with the system

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I say this purely in order to help you, you really need to take some time away from the internet if this is actually what you think. You’ve been radicalized by some dumb shit, as we all are from time to time, and need to take a minute to recognize that. I’d suggest speaking to people in real life, consuming more responsible news media, and examining the way you engage with internet content to start. Or don’t do any of that, I’m not the boss of you. Just trying to help one doomer at a time here

Solid, super fun trying to have a conversation with you guys. And people wonder why us lefties get a bad rap online

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How am I trolling? I’m genuinely confused. Do you guys actually think most Americans are closet socialists?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wait…. what? Most Americans are definitely not socialist. Unless you’re defining socialist like republicans do as in “when government does thing”

Let me get this straight. In your eyes, a therapy patient weaponizing concepts and terminology from their therapy in order to mistreat a significant other, unequivocally means the therapist colluded with their patient to emotionally abuse someone, the punishment for which should be a prison sentence. Did I get that right?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Wait has Imgur gone so far left it’s full authoritarian now, why should anyone be in prison?

I’m firmly pro choice but this doesn’t make sense. A pro lifer would just say, “well you can’t legally murder those people en masse nor are there any political movements seriously advocating the ability to do so”. If you want to make change in this world you have to engage with what people are actually saying, not a caricature of their position. Pro-life arguments are plenty dumb in other areas, just attack them there instead

In fairness, if the orphan crushing machine was powered by nuclear fusion and programmed with quantum computing I’d probably be like “hey this shouldn’t exist, but how it exists is really fucking interesting”. But hey I’m an engineer so maybe that’s just me

The consequence to setting rent too high is that nobody rents from you, it’s just like any other product. I agree that better protections should exist if that’s your argument but the reason rent is as high as it is, is because people will still pay it. Simple as that

I can explain this easily with just an entry level understanding of economics? There are so many valid criticisms of our current economic system, it frustrates me that the only ones we see in places like imgur can be refuted by Econ 101
