One of those people who leaves their jobs to make a video game.

I wish they played backwards while it was reversing

Live in japan, can confirm that a typical haircut here is like this, except for the parts between the beginning and the end of the video

Ah yeah, I mean half of all knots are structurally a bowline right? but the 2nd feels spiritually like a marlinspike hitch, in the way it's tied. Hard for me to see it as a sheet bend since there's no "bend" (no two lines being joined). But subjective to be sure

3rd is a constrictor hitch! Cool knot and way tighter than a clove hitch. 2nd is pretty much a marlinspike hitch I guess. 4th is sheet bend structurally, but when one side isn't a rope it's properly called a becket hitch I think?

What genre do you play? Anything with any element of swing or funk sounds awful if the audience claps on the 1/3 (instead of the normal 2/4). As opposed to things like latin jazz, marches, etc. where the natural emphasis is usually on 1/3.

"Pronounced 'bough'" was right there for the taking

It also has some gems of writing here and there. Here's my favorite quote:
"The topsail halyard bend is said to be a yachting hitch, but it is possible that it has never appeared outside the covers of a book. It has one more turn than the studding-sail bend and this, like the second tablespoonful of castor oil, savors of redundancy."
That is just some amazing prose.

If you search for "constrictor knot" you'll see what GP means. Note the actual constrictor is a binding knot, e.g. for tying off a bag etc. It kind of self-locks, a really neat knot.

It looks like ABOK 1674, a "snug hitch". Maybe a bit better for the purpose than a constrictor, which isn't really meant to be loaded on one side like that...

I mean, there's a worse possibility - he could be talking about lower taxes because he wants to get into politics...

"yatte mita, wakatta", not warukatta - it's just a direct translation, "tried it, found out", not an idiomatic one.

It's still crazy to me that some TV exec in the 60s sat down and said "I'm gonna pitch a prime-time sitcom based on a series of macabre New Yorker cartoons"

Real talk, I'm less of a Gabe fan since I found out he owns six superyachts.
Like I can sorta understand getting mega-rich and buying a yacht, but how do you become a guy who buys five gigantic yachts and then decides that's not enough yachts?

The joke is that it's new, not old - the idea is that the viewer might have thought it was the original Globe from the 1600s.
